Iowa Lawmaker: Ban Semi-Automatic Weapons, Then 'Start Taking Them' From Gun Owners if Needed
The Blaze ^ | 1/8/13 | Erica Ritz

A Democratic legislator in Iowa is startling citizens with his most recent proposal: ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons, and confiscate them from existing gun owners if need be.

Here is an excerpt from Iowa’s Daily Times Herald, which conducted the interview with State Rep. Dan Muhlbauer:

In an interview, a fiery Muhlbauer said it is time to act with “radical changes” on gun laws and other issues to protect schoolchildren from shooting sprees like the one last week in Newtown, Conn.

“We cannot have big guns out here as far as the big guns that are out here, the semi-automatics and all of them,” Muhlbauer said. “We can’t have those running around out here. Those are not hunting weapons.”

He added, “We should ban those in Iowa.”

Muhlbauer, who did not list the specific weapons he wants outlawed in The Daily Times Herald interview, said he would like to see the ban implemented in a retroactive fashion.

“Even if you have them, I think we need to start taking them,” Muhlbauer said. “We can’t have those out there. Because if they’re out there they’re just going to get circulated around to the wrong people. Those guns should not be in the public’s hands. There are just too many guns.” [Emphasis added]

I see the problem.

He's a state assemblyman, but he thinks he's a commissar.

What an oxygen thief.

“We can’t have those running around out here. Those are not hunting weapons.”

Uhhhh, semi-auto rifles have been the most common "hunting weapons" for about 100 years now.

Surely there is a “Henry Bowman” in rural Iowa with a hog farm that can accomodate this critter?

Second Amendment says nothing about hunting. The Second Amendment is implying more about gun confisticators.

Yesterday, my newly elected Rep. Rick Nolan, said he backs the 2nd Amendment, but no one needs an “assault rifle” to hunt ducks.
It’s pretty obvious that none of these supposed “2A backers” has ever READ THE 2nd AMENDMENT, let alone the Constitution they swore, under oath, to support and defend.
Chip Cravaack, we need you back!

“the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Selecting certain “arms” and banning the selling, ownership and use of them INFRINGES upon our rights.

Like I have said before about there anti-gun tough guys. They need to get down and do the dirty work themselves.

These politicians, union organizers, college professors. Leave your jobs, put on the Kevlar yourselves, grab a shotgun and start going door to door. Why should the police have to take the risks for your ideas? Get some trigger time yourselves, pussies. Talk is cheap when you are in a protected government office building with armed guards.

We are waitng for the show.

On one hand they think guns do so much damage that guns should be banned. On the other hand, they don’t think those same guns won’t do them damage if they try to “take” them.

The problem with “taking” assault weapons is that all the bullets come first.

Roger that.

As for the idiot’s comments, here’s my take. Those guns don’t run around out there. They must be carried everywhere they go by a human. It is not the fault of that inanimate gun if the human uses it for immoral or unlawful purposes. As for his ‘those are not hunting weapons’ remark, well, I guess it just depends upon what you’re hunting. An AR or AK may not be the prime choice for hunting squirrels, rabbits, pheasant, or gophers but if it’s all you got, you just have to shoot more of them to have some meat left to eat.
