I think Milton Friedman said that people don’t want to give up their government largesse; they want the other guy to give up his. The desire for gaining something from government starts at the top with corporations angling for protection from competitors and other government goodies and goes all the way to the people standing in line for “free” cheese”.

If Americans truly wanted smaller government and less spending, we would have it.
