I think it was a covert government op. Lanza was a drugged up patsy. One of the victim rather than the actual shooter. The rest of the incident was a "made for television" tragedy intended to promote gun control/confiscation. Much like the Aurora incident. That appeared to have multiple actors inside the theater and Holmes was too drugged to speak a complete sentence. It was just too perfectly executed for a drugged up Holmes to execute so perfectly.
