Republicans need to get their heads on straight, regroup, and start to announce what is right - stridently.

Duh, of course it made sense to review this bill for a few days rather than throw money down the stairs and see where it lands.

Christie is a bastard like Obama, a self centered political survivor, and in the end he skips the part that is best for people. And everyone agreed with his irresponsible populist rant.

They can't - because they love these types of pork-laden bills, too, and want to preserve the option to offer up their own in the future without being accused of hypocrisy.

Republicans made a strategic decision a long time ago that taking short-term heat from the base about overspending posed a lower liability to their political careers that the longer-term risk of losing the ability to direct their own pork to their own districts, as needed.
