“as truly a world capital as any city on earth … Paris dictates a season’s silhouette, but Detroit manufactures a pattern of life.””

Now it is a fifth world hell hole — thanks to liberals running the place into the dirt.

Detroit was “Paris of the West,” while Lebannon was “Paris of the Middle East.” I see a trend here...

AT LEAST THE LOCAL POLITICIANS AND CONNECTED PEOPLE ARE DOING VERY WELL..

An article on Yahoo misc section not long ago listed cities in America with the highest per-capita number of Millionaires. Detroit was near the top. But for “some” reason was not mentioned in the article itself..

I do not have a link, but I have seen it in print.

Evidently, the book is a rather complete and accurate vivisection of what Detroit has become.

Yet, oddly, I didn't see a single word about why.

Isn't that an issue that needs illumination, as well? All this fascination with the Ruin that is Detroit today. Yet, no curiosity about how it came to be?

Local newsman Charlie LeDuff’s Detroit 2012: The Movie.

It’s a wry take on a pathetic situation.

I wanna go home
I wanna go home
Ohh how I wanna go home

Last night I went to sleep in Detroit city
And I dreamed about those cotton fields and home
I dreamed about my mother, dear old papa, sister and brother
I dreamed about that girl who’s been waiting for so long

I wanna go home
I wanna go home
Ohh how I wanna go home

Home folks think I’m big in Detroit city
From the letters that I write they think I’m fine
But by day I make the cars, by night I make the bars
If only they could read between the lines

‘Cause you know I rode the freight train north to Detroit city
And after all these years, I find, I’ve just been wastin’ my time
So I just think I’ll take my foolish pride
And put it on a southbound freight and ride
And go on back to the loved ones
The ones that I left waitin’ so far behind

I wanna go home
I wanna go home
Oh how I wanna go home
I wanna go home

-——unsustainable manufacturing boom based on war production-——

Wow...... a precisely correct and very different angle providing a most meaningful view. It can be taken as a metaphor for the whole of America. I love it. It will be trashed by those here who long for a return to what briefly was. The lesson from Detroit is that it ain’t going to happen.

The industry of Detroit is now scattered across America and not only scattered but replaced by competitors offering better and more desirable products. BMW, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Nissan were found to be better and more acceptable than Oldsmobile and Pontiac and Plymouth and Imperial. (and Mercury and Lincoln)

The jobs that were based on war production and the aftermath of world destruction are gone from Detroit never to return. Detroit’s brief advantage of industrial concentration was dissipated by peace, reconstruction and competition.

That is precisely the state of America today. The brief advantage of not being destroyed, of industrial concentration, of relative peace and prosperity has been dissipated by competition abroad. Once the destruction was rebuilt, once there was recovery from the mental shock, once a newer generation came of age and took hold, The American advantage developed during the war was no more.

There are many who constantly write about the death of American jobs, of exporting jobs, of some magic potion that will bring it to an end, to a return to the brief spike in superindustrial triumph. They must read the Guardian article recounting the book authors’s words about Detroit. The message is plain. That which was will not continue forever.

America has experienced a period of rebirth it’s self. There has been positive change. Prior to the current Eurocrat debacle, there was both peace and prosperity. There was beyond full employment. There were so many jobs that it was necessary to allow illegal immigration on a large scale to get things done. America need not cry over what once was. The crying should be over what is. The Yankee Eurocrats are destroying America before our very eyes.

The article fails to even mention the two most important causes of Detroit's decline: Forced busing of school children, and unions. I lived in a Detroit suburb during most of the city's decline.

Parents left the city in droves when federal courts ruled that their children could no longer walk to the school just down the street, but must instead, be bussed many miles to some school which didn't have the appropriate ratios of skin color. It didn't take long before there was no longer any skin color mix left.

The other problem is unions. Corrupt unions, including teachers, cops, municipal workers, and industry have milked any remaining money out of the city.

I think that every Republican press conference should be held in Detroit.

“For a currently declinist, anxious America” - That’s the key phrase in the whole article. A Brit sees us as declinist and anxious. Why? We are a nation blessed with tremendous natural resources and with great ports on two oceans. Why should we be in decline? We have lost our way, thanks to the Democrats. Democrat ideas are toxic to America.

I visited a supplier in Detroit a few years ago. I flew in at night. The city itself was dark, most of the lights were in the ‘burbs.
