Cold case love triangle headed for court

Even in the messy world of love triangles, the predicament that Raymond Edward Wong faced in November 1999 was a tight spot.

Girlfriend No. 1, who lived with the computer systems expert in Pinole, had announced she was four months pregnant with the couple's second child. But in a Sacramento maternity ward lay a newborn girl, Wong's first child with Girlfriend No. 2. And she was itching to settle down as well.

According to authorities preparing to prosecute the 41-year-old Wong for murder, he fixed his dilemma by uniting the two women - each of whom knew of the other - for a drive into the Nevada desert.

The first girlfriend, 21-year-old Alice Sin, never came home. The second, Jessica Tang, who was then 25, moved in with Wong within days and married him a short time later.

Pinole police entered the case when Wong reported that Sin had vanished. Almost from the start, though, detectives suspected she was dead, not missing, a fear that was confirmed two months later when her remains turned up off a dirt road east of Reno.

But it would be a dozen years before investigators fulfilled what had become a fervent mission, arresting Wong on Dec. 24, 2011, on suspicion of murder.

Now, as the case heads toward a February preliminary hearing of the prosecution's evidence, court records are revealing what prompted the arrest: an aggressive, go-for-broke police grilling of Girlfriend No. 2.

I know that I should just accept the current low standard of writing that is permitted for “journalists” these days, but this is just so awful. For example:

But in a Sacramento maternity ward lay a newborn girl, Wong’s first child with Girlfriend No. 2. And she was itching to settle down as well.

Wow! That is some precocious infant! I wonder where she eventually settled down.

Well, at least he attempted to leave Sin behind. (Alice Sin)
