I think fascist is a better term. A communist wants the state to own everything (thus The People really own it), while a fascist allows private ownership of business but has a big say in how that business is run, from wages to products to, well, just about everything is regulated by some central fascist authority.
The only difference is that a fascist has the force of law behind him.

Organized crime is like government, or government is organized crime. I can never tell which. The protection rackets are the most obvious parallel. Even when gangsters meet market demand, as with women, licker, feel good pills, loose cigarettes, soon sody pop in NYC, or games of chance, they do so by violently enforcing their monopoly, exactly like government.
It’s not like people all over the country dropping dead from “unsafe” food.......
But what is the force of law but implied and actual violence that’s generally accepted as legitimate? I’m sure from time to time, here and there, gangsters have cut out their own little polities accepted by locals as every bit as legitimate as the state.

John Stossel will have plenty of fodder for his program these next four years. We’re going to be regulated to death if not by other means.
And think of who this will hit. He is already hitting hard the low cost restaurant industry with ObamaCare, now he is increasing the price of food. This may not affect the large franchises as much, because most of them enforce higher standards than the old rules anyway, but for many it will raise the price of food as well.
He is also just hitting customers everywhere with a tax increase, so they will be in the mood to save money.
High end restaurants will survive, because the rich can pay no matter what the price, and every man needs a place to impress a girl. But on the low end, it is very price sensitive, and people can always bring a lunch pail to work. For the small restaurants and grocers, they are getting hit from every angle.
I would have rather the enemy had come in uniform.

Around 3,000 people in the US die every year, and around 48 million become ill. There are always food recalls.
I got food poisoning a few months ago. I had to get an IV for dehydration, and pills to stop the nausea. It was not fun.
I haven't seen the text of the law, to know if it is based on scientific advice, or if it is just another power-grab in the name of a legitimate government function. Maintaining food safety is a huge challenge.

You always have to watch what Obama is doing with his other hand. While all the media’s attention has kept us focused on the Fiscal Cliff, Obama’s regulatory people just slipped a big one past us that could have much more enduring and profound consequences on our country. Similar to his EPA declaring CO2 to be a hazardous substance. Similar to his regulations requiring “economic justice” to be factored into every federal government funded transportation project.
Maybe it's time to form a "virtual nation"? Let the physical nations compete for the benefits of the economy of a virtual economy that is always ready and able to relocate elsewhere. (I'm not sure this is possible?)
If I were in the food production business, I would look at either exporting, or importing the food I used. If as a farmer I didn’t have to have these new regulations if I exported, or if I could just import food, I may do that.
The stupidity of our government is breathtaking. I wash produce before eating it. That is a dramatically more sensible option than trying to keep birds, bunnies, squirrels, and for all we know bees from entering farmland. As for adding $30k to a farm's annual costs, I don't think anyone in the Obama Administration has even the slightest clue how economics works (unless they really are trying to destroy our economy).
And don't forget, the inheritance taxes are back now. Many large farms will have to be sold instead of inherited and farmed.
This means more families will be harvesting their meals from dumpsters.

my Constitution
We the people understand that government concentrates power and that absolute power corrupts absolutely. so in order to limit government and to preserve our freedom and individual rights, to protect our bill of rights we set up this constitution. We understand that in addition to being corrupt, evil , inefficient government just never works as well as the free market (capitallism) by orders of magnitude. So government should be limited to just the military, border control , immigration limiting, and international issues. All other functions should be left to the people and the free market. Only laws which protect individual rights to ownership, including gun ownership that preserve life and individual rights such as free speech, right to privacy, right to own property shall be allowed(of course including local laws against assault, murder,stealing, rape,trespassing). but we realize that science, government and especially the media will create false crisis in order to con the people into voting in more government power and at the same time less individual rights ( as in the “fiscal cliff”, global warming hoaxes of the media, government and science).We realize that the only threat to us is the government and media and such fake science. With google, the millions of products in the free market (thousands of which come out every day and many which cost only a $1 at the dollar tree) we can find the solution to practically all our problems and don't need government at any level , nor the media to tell us what to do or to solve our problems for us with all their government red tape( fema) and thousands of rules and regulations that don't make sense and slow down the free market.

I know the bureaucrats in Europe are so bacteriophobic that they demand beer and live culture cheeses be Pasteurized to kill the bacteria. But preventing animals from grazing in fields? Are they essentially proposing that all farm animals must be penned for their entire lives?

My wife and I have been organic gardening, producing a sizable portion of our yearly food, using manure and BT for several decades now.
Maintaining a safe food supply falls into the category of "general Welfare." It is difficult to see how the free market could ensure a safe food supply, without a system in place to test food, without adequate science-based regulations and policies in place as a guide, or without a central clearing-house for information that must be disseminated rapidly to millions of people. Because in any system that depends on a free market reacting to a problem, people will needlessly get hurt or even killed by the time a problem is even discovered (if it can be identified at all).
I have no issue with the federal government fulfilling its constitutional duties. The problem I see is that legitimate constitutional functions are used as an excuse to cross over into tyranny (like forcing restaurants to stop using salt, even though it is a necessary nutrient).
Under Hitler, all the business owners who didn't do as they were told, were shot.
