If there is anything approaching an iron law of American politics, it's this: The next president will be a member of the same race as the current one. It's a rule that has held through 42 of 43 transfers of power. And there's every reason to think it will hold through the next one.

There isn't an obvious black Republican presidential candidate this cycle, though Condoleezza Rice has been acting like she's interested in politics.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Let's see -- she's pretty leftwing. She's got ties to George W Bush (and everybody likes the Bush dynasty, right?) and she's a supporter of homosexuals ...

Yes. I guess she IS the most obvious choice for the next GOP nominee ...

The next president will, in all likelihood, be African-American

I doubt it. Oboma has set race relations back decades. There's never been so many racist accusations sine Oboma got his affermative action presidency.
I think people have had enough of this "vote for their color" crap. This country is in real trouble, and people really need to get the adults back in charge.

Why stop there? Why not a new constitutional amendment requiring all future presidents be required to be black. And not any of this %50 black mess. %100! Because after all what is more important, the quality of a person's character or their skin color?

I have no preference for the color or melanin level of the next president,

as long as s/he’s a strict constitutional constructionist.

After 2 terms of the same party the mushy middle is generally sick of them, that’s why the sitting VPs usually lose. So unless the GOP completely spike it with a terrible nominee the next dem candidate will lose. Of course given the quality of GOP nominees lately there’s a distinct possibility of them spiking it.

Obama is NOT black. He's a mulatto. For history to record him as "black" is a deliberate lie. And he is NOT African American.

Either he is an American or an illegimate president.

It may be a while before we see another president. Should Obama want to run for a third term, the Roberts Court will dutifully interpret the 22nd Amendment in a way that allows him to do so, and the GOP will, as usual, choose an unelectable has-been or never-will-be as its nominee.

Biggest reason not mentioned: any criticism of a black candidate can be tagged as RACIST. Provided that candidate is not a conservative black person, in which case viciously racist attacks are perfectly OK.

American politics: appeal to the visceral racism of blacks by putting up a black candidate and then give out free stuff to solidify their enthusiastic support. Since the free cell phone bribe was already done by the dems, I guess the GOP will need to up the ante and provide free cars with free gas!

This will not end pretty.

Actually, I saw him in a picture the other day somewhere standing with Obama....a younger black man, shaved head and probably same mixed race as Obama. He’s running for Senate or something....but no mistake, he’s their pick for 2016 - Biden is gone, Hillary is gone...

George W. Bush was a mulatto—Who knew?

Actually, the Democrat strategy will likely be to run a woman, or an Hispanic, or an Hispanic woman, and cash in on the cachet associated with “minority” candidates.

The marxist Axelrod made sure the BEST black candidate, Herman Cain, was branded with the number one fear of whites— the black man with a white female.

Classic communist tactic (and if true then Herman and his wife should have known better, that is— if she knew in the first place) to drive wedge in the ‘working classes’ and they’ve been doing it since the 50’s.

So, again NO the democrats will not allow it and the republicans would not be able to manage it.

After 8 years of Obama failing the black community, there will be diminished energy by Eric Holder’s “people” to turn out the vote in 2016.

Same as what? I have no idea what your point is, but that's ok.

Like a lot of people I am just tired of everything revolving around skin color or sex. Its just so meaningless! It indicates absolutely nothing about a person's ability to do a job.

After all, black leadership has done so much for America, American cities and foreign countries.

By 2016 Barack Obama will have brought true equality to most of America.
When he gets done the entire country will be nothing but a huge replica of Detroit or Zimbabwe.

I think people have had enough of this "vote for their color" crap.

Ha, some people -- some white people -- have. But from what I've seen lately from actors and columnists and polls and the "where my free phone at?" crowd, it's race first and foremost from here on out.
