OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. -
A north Georgia sheriff is taking a stand against a Buford gun store that refuses to sell certain types of rifles to the public.
Dana Safety Supply has opted to only sell a semi-automatic, self-loading rifle to law enforcement and not to the general public. Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said that decision has led him to stop buying from the store.
"If they chose not to sell to civilians, law-abiding civilians, then I can choose not to buy from them -- that's all I was trying to say," Berry said.
DSS, which has stores in Georgia, North and South Carolina and Florida, said in a statement, "While we support the rights of Americans to own and safely enjoy firearms, we have chosen to sell some selected firearms to law enforcement personnel only. DSS remains dedicated to the safe and responsible sale of firearms and supporting the law enforcement officers who protect us all."
DSS joins other merchants which pulled weapons from their shelves or stopped selling certain types after the massacre in Newtown Connecticut.
Berry said he doesn't support any restrictions on assault-style weapons.
"The truth of the matter is that banning the object for the actions of the person to me is absolutely ridiculous,"
Berry says he doesn't support any kind of restriction on clips either. Bottom line for the six-time elected sheriff: the Constitution.
"You don't pick and choose, you either support the Constitution or you don't," said Berry.
Berry says he's received hundreds of emails from across the country. Most of them, he says, support his stand, but one woman from Florida called him a jerk. The sheriff said that he didn't mind and supports her right to say that.

This group is where the decision came from, they are the owners. Make sure you remember this any time you have cause to do business with any of their car deqlerships
Sounds like his county would be a good place to live if the shtf.
dealerships
not TWO items.
1. the new meme is “massacre” rather than assault.
2. this is a FOX NEWS affiliate. IOW the fourth estate is dead, buried, and the tomb stone is carved and placed.
...and maybe the Falcons & Braves will throw in a couple of future draft choices....??
Just say'n...
Here comes the next Fluke'n MSM porn star.
They will find her come hell or high water.
So, the store’s stance is that they won’t sell “unsafe guns” to citizens?
The solution to that is go to another gun store. I never knowingly and willingly did business with people who considered themselves doing me a favor when taking my money. The tax collector and irs I have to but don’t like it. I would think that other gun shops would appreicate the business.
He’s not the only sheriff in GA that feels this way. In the end its going to be the local sheriff’s that stand between us and the Feds kicking in our doors.
I can attest to him being a good upstanding “one of us” Constitutional sheriff. May there be many more like him.
Fox News and Fox Broadcast are 2 different entities when it comes to local news. One Fox affiliate in my area is owned by the local NBC affiliate and utilizes the same local news team. Another owned by a CBS affiliate, and yet a third owned by a station that utilizes both ABC and NBC programming - but share he same local news teams.
I like this guy but, just to be perfectly clear: police are “civilians” too. We should all do well to remember that despite the cliche. Sorry to pick nits.
The current influx of gun control advocates to control the type of weapon is not the method needed period.
The way to control weapons is use.
ie: No weapon may be discharged in State for any reason
If Weapon is discharged in State all weapons owned will be surrendered to law officials.
Any person involved in discharge of any weapon will be jailed for 90 to 120 days depending on infraction!
Now we’re getting down to the multiplier effect for this nonsense. I fully expect to see the proposed boycotts and the counter-buycotts and demonstrations and on and on.
Right up until the dhimmicrats blink and fail to actually do anything more than shoot off their mouths (pun as appropriate). They know the truth - any vote for gun control is a vote for self-extinction as a legislator.
Sheriff Berry is a good man.
This guy rocks. Kudos to the Sheriff.
Regarding him running for the legislature, it is perhaps equally important that we have Constitution-friendly sheriffs as state legislators. There are a lot of interesting powers that a sheriff has in the U.S. system. Just look at what Sheriff Joe Arpaio does.
