Obama voices support for Illinois gay marriage measure [Federal Dictator Rules on State Laws?]

The Illinois Senate could vote as early as tomorrow on a measure to sanction same-sex marriage in the state.

One former member of that body has already weighed in: President Barack Obama.

“Were the President still in the Illinois State Legislature, he would support this measure that would treat all Illinois couples equally," Obama spokesman Shin Inouye recently told the Chicago Sun-Times.

It's unusual for a sitting president to get involved in a state legislative matter (especially, you might argue, a president whose own views on the issue have been unclear until recently). Supporters say it's just another indication that the once-controversial issue is much less so now. They also point to the November elections, in which four states either legalized or declined to outlaw gay marriage.

“Public opinion has been moving so quickly on this,” said state Sen. Heather Steans, D-Chicago, one of the proponents. “The conversation we're having is really different in tone” than in past years.

Illinois in 2010 passed a law allowing “civil unions,” which gives same-sex couples the same general legal rights as married couples. A formal same-sex marriage law would be a largely symbolic addition to that, but one that both sides in the debate are taking seriously.

The way he tries to involve himself in state matters reminds me of a creepy child molester who “just loves kids”.

Yep; the way he tries to involve himself in state matters reminds me of a creepy wannabe dictator. (Didn’t you hear; he “evolved” on the subject a year or so before he announced to everybody he’d evolved?) To LGTB, or is it LTGB, groups; he “announced” a year or so earlier.

Michigan Republican Party chairman Bobby Schostak issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s visit to Michigan today:

“It’s interesting that President Obama has chosen to stop in Michigan to propose his economic recovery plan of higher taxes, more spending and broken budgets. Here in Michigan we’ve seen actual economic recovery by streamlining government, cutting taxes and balancing budgets.

“The President’s divisive message and attack on Michigan workers is just another indication of how out of touch Pres. Obama has become. President Obama’s continued attempt to subvert state rights is an assult on our federal system.

“I encourage the former law professor and our current President brush up on the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, ‘The powers not delegated to the United states by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.’

“The President’s stance is a blatant attack on Michigan workers and demonstrates the President’s staunch support of special interest union bosses. Thankfully, Michigan Republican leaders are here to provide a firewall for Michigan workers and their families and to keep Michigan’s turnaround on course.”

IL GOP Chair Promotes Same-Sex Marriage
http://www.illinoisfamilyaction.org/?p=1138

excerpt...
There are many things wrong with Illinois politics, but today our attention should turn to the feckless and destructive antics of the chair of the Illinois Republican Party: Pat Brady. On this the first working day of the New Year, the purported standard-bearer for conservatism in Illinois is busy calling Illinois Republican lawmakers, urging them to vote to destroy marriage. Yes, you heard that right. IL GOP Chair Pat Brady is trying to convince Republican state lawmakers that marriage has no intrinsic connection to gender, sexual complementarity, or procreative potential....

His followers are a bunch of simple minded morons with no knowledge of civics.

They complain that states shouldn’t do things they don’t like because “Obama won” then look at me like I’m the moron when I point out that he didn’t win a single legislative seat in a single state.

What does Obama have against Illinois? It looks like he is trying to destroy it to the point of Detroit.
