House votes to block salary hike for federal workers, members of Congress

The House approved legislation on Tuesday that would block a pay increase for federal workers and members of Congress scheduled to take place in March.

Members voted 287-129 in favor of the bill from Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.). Just two Republicans opposed the legislation, and 55 Democrats supported it.

Republicans brought the bill up under a suspension of the rules in order to allow for quicker consideration, although that move also required a two-thirds majority vote.

The bill is a response to an (executive order) last Friday from President Obama that would end the two-year federal worker pay freeze, and increase congressional pay by about $1,000 for each member of the House and Senate.

$1 worth of cuts and $41 in spending.
Happy new years tax slaves. So, what are you going to do with YOUR dollar after you pay off the $16 trillion deficit? I'm going to buy half a loaf of bread. It's party time!

Meaningless vote. They can't change their own pay until 2014. The 27th amendment states:

No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.

I still haven't figured out how Obama had it in his power to grant or restrict federal (including Congressional) pay with executive orders.

Ronald Reagan famously said “Mr. Brezhnev: tear down this wall.”

A Republican (Conservative) should say “Congress: tear down this evil bloated bureaucracy laden government!”

According to DRUDGE, Oboma left town to finish his luxurious $7 million vacation without taking the time to sign the bill first.

It's not about people. With Oboma nothing is. It's all about power. It's all about him.

Nor have I. He's essentially overruled the 27th Amendment by diktat and nobody has the guts to call him on it.

It’s all symbolic. Even Obama’s doing it was symbolic, just a passing “FU,” which seems to be about all he knows how to say or do.

So I think it was good that they at least made the symbolic gesture of opposing it. And who knows, maybe they’ll move on to the bigger stuff.

Obama has treated the Congress with such contempt that I can’t believe even those who voted for this latest “deal” are particularly happy with him. He treats them with contempt because he regards the House as more representative of the ordinary person, the common man (which is exactly what the Founders wanted it to be), and thus it is symbolic of everything Obama hates about this country.

And this new "Fiscal Cliff" bill isn't even legal. All revenue bills have to originate in the house. This came from the senate, as did the death-care bill.

If the stupid party really wanted to stop death-care, they could have. If they wanted to call the shots on the fiscal cliff, they could have.

Good Cop/Bad Cop.

He treats them with contempt because contempt is what they deserve.

They could get respect if they earned it.

They are a contemptible lot.
