I get the point about being “manly” and not “effeminate” or “moderate” or whatever other adjective we want to use. I'm also well aware of passages such as Psalm 139:19-22. But they don't render Matt. 5:43-48 and Romans 12:14 irrelevant.
For those of us who believe in the power of a sovereign God, nobody is beyond hope, not even Hillary Clinton. Prayer for her is not only important — it is commanded in God's Word. Let's not forget that serious illnesses have a way of making people confront their mortality, and waking them up to eternal realities.
I'm not naive, however. If repentance does not happen, which would be unlikely but not impossible, we need to remember that what we say as conservatives is being watched. If our goal is to win rather than just get angry, we need to choose our words and our tactics carefully. Courage and zeal are good, but only if they actually accomplish something.
In this case, nasty language about Hillary Clinton during her illness may actually hurt us rather than help. How often do we cite wild-eyed comments by left-wing bloggers and media and academics to prove that the liberals are filled with hate? They do the same with us.
The Clinton family has been dealing with Free Republic since it began. As Freepers, we're part of the “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy,” to use a Clinton phrase. We already know they have people monitoring this website.
We do not write in a vacuum — numerous Freepers have found our words quoted and used by national-level Democrats. My own experiences with that are relatively minor, but they've happened. Other Freepers have been cited directly in the New York Times and other major media. I've even seen one Freeper whose comments were used virtually verbatim in a presidential speech, though without attribution. I guess President Obama’s speechwriters consider Free Republic to be good source material.
It helps nobody in the conservative movement for Hillary Clinton's staff members to collect copies of Free Republic postings and give them to Hillary as motivation to get her angry and get her out of bed so she can come back to the fight. We can assume that Hillary Clinton's staff members are reading this thread, so that is a quite realistic possibility.
