MN Social Studies Curriculum Emphasizes American 'Racism,' Removes 'Patriotism'
Breitbart ^ | 12/23/2012

Last Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Education held public hearings to approve its new social studies education curriculum that leaves out "patriotism" as a civic virtue and teaches that America's rise as a global power from its agrarian roots led to "institutionalized racism."

History Standard 20 for the period 1870–1920, in the new social studies/history standards, says:

“The student will understand that as the United States shifted from its agrarian roots into an industrial and global power, the rise of big business, urbanization, and immigration led to institutionalized racism, ethnic and class conflict, and new efforts at reform.”

John Fonte, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, wrote that "nine years ago a group of history professors from the University of Minnesota sent a letter to the state’s education department" complaining that Minnesota's social studies standards "presented American history too positively."

These academics wanted Minnesota's children to learn that the story of American "primarily meant slavery for African Americans, genocide for American Indians, subjugation for women, xenophobia for immigrants, and exploitation for poor people."

The 2012 standards also include "no references to 9/11, the Taliban, Osama bin Laden, the Iraq War, the war in Afghanistan, the Gulf War of 1991, or terrorism itself."

In addition, the Minnesota education standards no longer list “patriotism” in the list of “civic values." As Fonte notes, Loyola University, Baltimore Professor Diana Schaub has described this deemphasizing of "patriotism" in the schools as “civics without a country."

Are these people aware at all, that Native Americans declared War on each other, committed acts of barbarism on each other, had slaves (other Tribes and African American slaves)?

The peaceful Tribes were afraid of the Apaches and other waring Tribes.

This is all being done to cause racism toward fellow Americans based on the color of their skin or sex.

I am descended from African Americans, from American Indians, from women, from immigrants, and from poor people. Fortunately, I had decent parents, so I learned patriotism in this great country. I learned to understand America's greatness and to continue working on those areas where we still need to improve. One doesn't have to hate America to get the full story - although I'm sure the goal of a shockingly biased spin on the truth is to implement communism, which would never pass with Americans who understood an honest version of our history (or of communism's history).

Well said. This reminds me of the “LA RAZA” curriculum they were teaching in the Tucson Unified School District’s Ethnic Studies. (which our former Ed head and now Attorney General went after).

Tucson is still trying and the “la raza” demonstrators had disrupted TUSD public meetings, intimidated the Board at the meetings, and displayed poor behavior. (adults and la raza influenced students).

HHH was an historian and never said enactment of his liberal program would lead to all of this!

It’s all wrapped up in denial of our Christian teaching - we are all sinners and Jesus is our salvation.

Liberals find it easier to blame white people and claim that humans are improving.

It’s a denial of God and human nature.

I always thought the last two generations were ill-educated at best.

Can y’all imagine how bad the next one is going to be?

I remember AZ finally voted to stop the Mestizo Racist La Raza studies...notice how little coverage of that compared to AZ Immigration bill? Both passed at same time....liberal media sure did not want to discuss La Raza studies

I’m not sure many people realize just how leftist Minnesota is. It is Massachusetts but with more blondes.

Nope, barely covered the very disruptive protests of the “students” and agitators. BUT, the lib papers here (if you can even call them “newpapers” anymore) and the lib TV stations, are going after Tom Horne the Attorney General and they local media had NO PROBLEM, with the innuendo of the FBI investigation of HORNE, in which the FBI leaked he was “having an affair”. (sound familiar with this Current Administration?) Since when is the FBI the keeper of “affairs”? I’m sure the FBI was right on that with the Billary and Barry. /s

Perfect! ‘Racism’ (a Leon Trotsky invention, some say, and an artificial invention it is, whoever the inventor!) replaces patriotism as a value.

What took ‘em so long?! It doesn’t matter that one is positive, the other negative, that one is desirable and the other isn’t, what matters is this value’s importance in our lives, which in both cases is to be considered high, unassailable. Does that make sense?

It is probably in the Core standards curriculum. They found a way to eliminate the local power over education.

They don’t need parents to approve. It is an Obama sponsored, Ayers devised, and federal program to “socialize” school aged children.

Just where and when (except Democrat Athens) has industrialization andurbanization led to slavery?
