NRA Picks Asa Hutchinson to Lead Guards in Schools Push

On Friday, the NRA announced that Hutchinson — also a former Homeland Security official and now a lawyer predominantly focused on white-collar crime — will spearhead an effort to put armed guards at schools in hopes of preventing mass shootings like the one on Dec. 14 in Connecticut that killed 20 young children and 6 adults.

"School safety is a complex issue with no simple, single solution," Hutchinson said at Friday's news conference. "But I believe trained, qualified, armed security is one key component among many that can provide the first line of deterrence as well as the last line of defense."

His effort, dubbed the National School Shield Program, would have a "budget provided by the NRA of whatever scope the task requires." It will focus on producing a security model, which may rely on local volunteers as armed security guards and would be offered for adoption at every school in America free of charge, NRA officials said.

"I think promoting hunting and shooting sports in general is a strong tradition in Arkansas, and it's a tradition that dies out if it is not passed on to the next generation," he told the Democrat-Gazette.

When asked about the connection between hunting weapons and the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which gives Americans the right to bear arms, he said: "To me, it's a matter of freedom, it's a matter of history and tradition, and it's a matter of self-protection."

Finally, a plot by conservatives to successfully infiltrate these liberal fascist incubation containers we erroneously call schools?

We will have to shoot every liberal fascist principle and school superintendant in the nation to pull it off.

The left won’t let any one of us within a 1/2 mile of their schools, even if a law to do so was passed. The Teachers Union would go on strike.

So why os the NRA doing this....you have to ask yourself. There is some very subtle strategery going on here.

Seems the NRA will put security in schools, at a very low cost, before 0bamas national conversation gets off the ground

In all 100,000 plus schools?

So who exactly is going to pay for this big government wet dream?

Easy, fire three union teachers for each guard.
This time it really is for the children.
They do care about the children, right?

The local communities should vote on how they handle this and how they pay for it. Some schools are already like a fortress. No one gets in/out during the day. A lot of schools have police officers there. I think everyone is too emotional right now. All schools should have some protection. But the idea of some of the wacky teachers having guns is kinda scary. No offense but some of these small time security firms have regular problems due to some of the most inexperienced people. I do think more schools will hire protection. Local school meetings will probably hear of a lot of demands. I think it should start there. The NRA needs to fight for our right to bear arms.

-->>Wait until the Dems put 2 and 2 together and propose an “NRA compromise” federal program whereby the TSA/Homeland Security will provide security for the nations schools. Think of all the new government union employees.

I don't understand why so many are willing to give up their freedoms. I would not trust the federal government having more power of making a school more of a police state arrangement. The Government is already poising the kids minds; rewritten history and peace under one flag for all. No pledge of allegiance to the nation. People better be careful. To me, this is a dangerous route like the Patriot act. Most use to say, it's local..now, some are advocating for more government involvement.

‘How many mass shootings have there been at your local school?
Irrational fear is a powerful motivator isn’t it?’

Not that many, but the obozo people deem it enough to strip all innocent law-abiding people’s right to bear arms.

So we need to act to prevent further incidences of school shooting to shut them up and strip them of excuses to take away our right to bear arms.

Getting the school kids the protection they need by having armed guards (paid or volunteered...) at schools is one way.

Remaining silent or inactive on this issue of the moment will be like giving them the go-ahead to strip our right to bear arms.

Of course, the measures (e.g. armed guards) taken are for the protection of the kids, as well as for preserving our rights to bear arms

You’re never going to get a nationwide system of volunteers without ever increasing federal oversight all because a tiny fraction of a percent of schools have experienced these types of shootings.

You’re being played like fiddles.

Who wants federal oversight?
Who is talking about nationwide system of volunteers?
Schools are run by states and counties. States and counties will be responsible for selecting the methods and the procedures for protecting the school kids.

Example, Marlboro county in NJ has decided to guard their 9 schools with policeman.
Others that cannot afford the additional cost can recruit volunteers.

You, sir or madam, appear to be advocating gun control and big government.

******************

You and me and all others that pay taxes will in some way provide the funding if this becomes reality.

Many ISDs across the country currently have their own school police departments. This should be a local decision or state at the largest, imo.

Yes, if this is the ploy, then it is masterful and exemplary.

Wait till the left figures out that they can place a few unstable ringers among the volunteers.

At best one could fire a few rounds into a ceiling, get a relative slap on the wrist and we’re right back to listening to them screech about how we need to ban guns. The left is pretty ruthless and could come up with something far worse.
