1. Because the Senate wasn'[t going to pass the House bill anyway. The Dems want to go over the cliff.
2. Because the Republican House was going to blamed for the calamity in any event, regardless of any action they took.
3. Because it demonstrates the GOP caucus has not lost sight of why they were elected -- they retain at least a shred of principle and honor.
4. Because it means that, in all liklihood, Boehner's service as Speaker has come to an end. This serves as a rousing vote of "no confidence".
I want to go over the cliff, too. Forget taxes. They shouldn’t go up in a recession, and blah, blah, blah. They’re going to raise taxes anyway, the hidden ones. Inflation gives the feds most of their filthy lucre. At least, at least! the “cliff” gives us some cuts.
