DNA is the worst spaghetti code imaginable in terms that it is not meant to be read by humans. Making just small alterations can have unforeseen consequences in a million differnt parts of the “program”. You make one disease-resistant plant with a few hacker lines and end up with man-eating tomatos.

That’s funny. I was just musing about how I might learn enough DNA engineering to alter how my garden plants grow. DIY in this area could be a huge industry and would sure be a lot of fun. For instance, I’d grow 5-pound tomatoes which would make canning a lot easier. And if they turned out to be man-eating mutants, I’d plant them along my neighbors border and in the front yard to keep dogs from crapping there.

I read an article recently suggesting that an important factor in current obesity issues is from hybrid wheat. It said there is some genetic change that effects how the body perceives or stores after eating wheat. I wish I could find the article.
