It’s well-known to most FReepers, but society in general is completely missing the root causes of tragedies such as these.
I stayed up last night to watch the 49ers-Patriots game, and at game’s end came a commercial for a new video game, “Hitman.. Absolution.” As expected, the game consists of numerous sequences of mass violence.. shoot-em-up gun battles with whomever gets in the “protagonist’s” way.
Banning possession of firearms is not only unconstitutional, but completely ineffectual, when the “weapon” in this case is the one attacking the mentalities of young people who have their noses planted to a computer screen for hours at a time engaging in whatever hot, new blood-on-the-streets gaming app or DVD happens to be popular. Their brains are getting fried to the point of total desensitization. And I’m willing to bet this freak Adam Lanza was one of those obsessive “gamers.”
That said, I’m not for banning those games, but a heavy dose of deglamorization would be in order.
And, I might add... parental guidance and involvement.
Why stop short just for shooter video games? Why not include all movies/tv shows/all forms of entertainment inducstries?
If we only produce fluffy bunnies and adorable kitten/puppies shows, and ‘everybody LOVES and is loved’ teaching all day long at schools and public places, that should completely solve the ‘violent culutre’ problems ........
I think you have to be 17 to buy games that are rated Mature. Many parents buy them for their younger teens.
