Who wants anyone killed?

The post was self-explanatory.
However, I'll break it down:
A goodly majority of 'Freepers' like to take the easy road and assume that the 0.5%-1.0% of bad police officers define all police officers.
Secondly, (and most importantly) a goodly majority of 'Freepers' like to assume, with no good reason, that local and county police are the same as Federal Police in Iran or Saudi Arabia.
These goodly majority of Freepers then make overt and disparaging remarks that lead many to assume that these Freepers would wish ill will on all local police.
The police-hating on FreeRepublic can be very disconcerting, when considering the amount of police<-->public interactions that happen any given day (probably upwards of 200,000 plus interactions per day) and only 0.5% to 1.0% of those interactions result in anything remotely "unlawful" being done by the police officer.
FreeRepublic s full of conservatives whom complain about being stereotyped as gun-toting, bible-thumping, preppers.....yet turn around and hypocritically assume that all city & county police are slaves of the federal government and are no different than Iranian Secret Police.

On a side note:
The biggest cop-hating "boogie-man story" that gets spit out lately seems to be that local and county police will somehow be empowered to go doo-to-door and confiscate legally owned guns. What utter poppycock nonsense. The Federal Government already doesn't trust local law enforcement, why in the world would they give them such a task when obviously federal police and military would be required to do such a thing.
As a police officer in a medium-sized city department I know of no officer whom swears allegiance to the almighty federal government, nor do I know of any of us or county or state police that would stand by and assist a federal overthrow of the US Constitution.
Local and County police are given their law enforcement powers by their respective cities and counties NOT by the federal government. The FBI, DEA, DHS, SS, etc has no command and control over local and county police....they can't roll in and tell us what to do specifically in the context of some sort of federal take over of our rights and constitution.

But ultimately, it's easiest for the weak-minded and conspiracy theorists to assign their fears to those they see most (local police are seen the most and therefore become the Federal Boogie Man). Any position of authority automatically means they are evil to those that can't take the time to learn how to differentiate between things.
There's a lot of FreeRepublic "Conservatives" that chose to believe their ill-thought assumptions as opposed to try to learn the truth or even better yet....get a grasp on common sense.

You got issues.

2 people were killed. That's a BadThing(tm).

Prayers are appropriate.

Discussion about cop haters could be on a separate thread.

BTW, I don't hate people. Sometimes I hate what they do.

And for the local constabulary? Mainly I feel a sense of deep saddness at their lack of situational awareness.

Makes me miss the stripes on my sleeve so I could verbally rip the hide off of them, and try to keep them alive.

I think I would take exception to “a goodly majority”. Please cite some numbers. Thanks

“A goodly majority of ‘Freepers’ like to take the easy road and assume that the 0.5%-1.0% of bad police officers define all police officers.”

I will lead off by saying that I support good law enforcement. I will also say that i live in an upscale community in Northern California where crime isn’t a major issue. In all seriousness, just where do you get the 0,5-1.0% “bad police officers” statistic? If that were reality, I would have no issue. Several years ago, I had occasion to submit a written complaint about one of our officer’s behavior. The way the department handled my complaint would lead you to conclude that I was the criminal. Law Enforcement today does not take kindly to being criticized and as a consequence, they go after the complainant with a vengence. I was threatened, interrogated in a windowless room, and the chief ignored a final response for more than a year (until I went to the Town Council and demanded that they provide direction). And you know, at the end of the day, it was all about “not coloring the cop’s permanent record.” What he did, wasn’t the issue, protecting his retirement was what it was all about.Shoot, when I went into the department and asked for the complaint form, the desk sgt. threw it at me and he didn’t even know what my concern was. They act like a bunch of spoiled children, but unlike children, they have weapons and the color of authority.
So maybe, you’re right, there is that small percentage that exhibit true criminal behavior, but I will bet you that the number grows substantially when you include all the stuff that cops get away with that would be cause for the arrest of any of us ordinary citizens. Their attitude is “we are the cops, we are not accountable to anyone for our behavior; we are above the laws we are sworn to uphold”
Would that it wasn’t so, but pal, it is! I don’t hate cops, but I sure as hell don’t trust them.
