The shooters are often white males in their 30s and 40s.

Not so terribly surprising in a country where the majority of the population is white. That will change as society's demographics change.

Contrary to the popular perception that these offenders "just snap," mass shootings are almost invariably preceded by a great deal of planning and deliberation.

Obviously, the killer has to make a conscious choice to take a weapon to a public place, and there's probably a lot of brooding beforehand, but the "one day he just snapped" idea is so widespread there must be some reason for it.

But the fact is that, while mass public shootings always tend to galvanize massive media coverage, they are becoming increasingly less common, falling sharply in the last decade compared with the previous two.

6 of the 12 deadliest mass murder incidents happened since 2007.

berzerker
Berserkers (or berserks) were Norse warriors who are reported in the Old Norse literature to have fought in a nearly uncontrollable, trance-like fury, a characteristic which later gave rise to the English word berserk.
Berserkers are attested to in numerous Old Norse sources. Most historians believe that berserkers worked themselves into a rage before battle, but some think that they might have consumed drugged foods.
