Amen. Our jails are full of people with mental illness that are all screwed up on meds. Add to that the rate of drug abuse such as high potency marijuana, meth, cocaine, heroin, and legal heroin like oxycontin and a poor environment and you realize they are statistically doomed. That is my opinion after two decades in law enforcement investigating serious crime.

You can look at the flyer photographs everyday or look around booking in the jail and see plenty of mental illness. Many of the folks in our prison system now would have been in mental hospitals decades ago. Evil must be addressed, and I am not excusing their actions, but many of my peers share this opinion.

I am not against “big pharma” in a traditional sense and believe in capitalism, but there is also little doubt in my mind that big pharma and politicians/government have colluded to give us this current mess. When you look at the amount of money involved in the psychotropic drug market and the statistics about how many patients are on public assistance (with little supervision or oversight) it’s frightening.

We are spending many billions of dollars each year and when you add up the costs in many cases it would probably be a wash to treat the worst cases institutionally.

Ok, thanks for telling me, I know about these, just didn’t know the acronym. I don’t think they would be effective for autism etc, but then psychiatry seems to want an external, medical solution to almost everything - very ironic, since when it began it was known as “the talking cure”.
