Why is psychiatry soooooo heavily dictated by FASHION? It has gotten to the point that people feel LEFT OUT if they arent’ the subject of some stupid diagnosis.
And then it runs in time; first it’s bipolar...everyone is bipolar....now it’s ASPERGER’S.
Shrinks are shamans of the 21-st century, and drugs are their bones and potions.
... and you are terribly uninformed.
You sound like a movie star who is into the Church of Scientology.
Mental illness is real. There are abuses and malpractice does happen, of course, but the conditions are very real.
I agree, and more. The doctors have what I call the disease of the month - in the 1980s, they were telling women that everything was endometriosis - then it was hypoglycemia - or was it the other way around.
We used to live in Kenya & Uganda. While there I saw a kid with a white circle painted around one eye. He had been to the witchdoctor and had received the ‘treatment’ for headache.
Another time we treated an infant with severely bleeding gums. The mother had taken the child to the witchdoctor, complaining that the child was crying, feverish, irritable and not nursing (i.e., teething). The witchdoctor said, “Ah, there is a disease going around. For two chickens, I will cure the child.”
His solution was to dig out the eye (canine) teeth “buds” (they had not erupted yet) using a sharpened bicycle spoke as his scalpel. Thankfully, our nurse had an ampule of adrenalin which stopped the bleeding. We almost had to restrain the nurse from beating the mother with a stick. No telling what she would have done to the witchdoctor.
Our Western psychiatric witchdoctors sometimes do far more harm than their African counterparts.
You bet it’s fashion. Heck, they even vote on new maladies:
“After more than a decade of discussion and often heated debate, the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association voted in Arlington, Va., over the weekend to approve the fifth edition of the group’s “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders” or DSM-5, the official guide to classifying psychiatric illnesses.”
Unfortunately, there are true believers among us into the religion of psychiatry and over-medication.
I've seen Asperger Syndrome up close and personal in *two* relatives.Neither of them have ever killed anybody...or even tried to...but,sad to say, they're both very,*very* strange. And spooky for that matter.Just watch Rain Man and remember that both are almost as weird as he was.Brains can malfunction just like hearts, lungs, livers and kidneys. The difference is that when a brain malfunctions the result can be mass murder.
No,I'm not making excuses.I'd want to see him fry just as I hope to see Major Nidal fry.Too bad that CT just repealed their DP...but he might qualify under the Federal DP.
you sir or lady are complete idiot.
My son has Aspergers. Sweetest kid in the world.
Maybe you’d like to spend a week in my home and clinically diagnose him yourself? You know, cause you know EVERYTHING about it considering you don’t have any kids suffering from (it).
Asperger’s is very real.
Follow the money...
There are financial incentives to the diagnosis of “syndromes”, “disorders”, and other maladies - to public schools, they get extra funding from the federal government for every student with any sort of diagnosed “disorder” or “disability”, so they WANT those diagnosis - especially of children that other wise are pretty much able to function.
Doctors and pharmaceutical companies have reason to promote such diagnosis... $billions are on the line, with new markets with each new “disorder” diagnosed...
Mental health facilities gain from insurance, government payments, etc. for every patient they “treat” - regardless of the outcome or “success”, as there is little or no means of measuring any perceived improvement...
Universities receive grants, both public and private to “research” disorders. If they don’t cough up something, the money dries up. So they WILL find something... which returns the cycle back to the beginning.
And lest we forget - the “stigma” of a “mental disorder” has begun to be replaced with the acceptance of a “disorder” that becomes and excuse - an excuse for behavior, and excuse to not hold a job, an excuse to draw benefits (after all - many disorders now graduate rapidly to “disability”).
“A longtime family friend said Lanza had a condition where he couldnt feel pain.
Seriously? He supposedly couldn’t feel pain, so this is yet another excuse for murdering 20 children and several adults? I don’t think so...
But of course, politicians and anti-gun Marxists will tell us it was the fault of the gun...
