Gun owners need to own guns responsibly. That means locking them up or rendering them unusable.

The GOP is going to have to stave off gun control. I’m willing to consent to fines and imprisonment for parents [and others] who do not lock their guns to prevent someone else going postal.

Think of the many toddlers who get daddy’s gun ... I say lock him up!

OK, lock up Mama Lanza.

There is nothing that will stop this. Connecticut is already very gun controlling.

But it will provide an excuse for the grabbers to come after our guns. I'm sure they appreciate your support.

All of my weapons are loaded and unlocked. I'll not ever do as you say. An unloaded weapon is a club.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Yeah, and when I see a rattlesnake in the yard (quite a common event) or someone forces his way into my house, I'll just ask them to please be so kind as to wait while I go get my gun ready!!

Seriously, when my children were young, it wasn't hard to keep the guns in a rack, out of reach. But, by the time they were able to reach for them, not only they knew better but "securing" them would have rendered them useless. The only exception to this rule was when they had friends over, to play. Then, and only then, the guns were locked in the closet, and my bedroom door closed. Visitors were made aware that my room was out of bounds when playing.

I'm perfectly willing to consent to letting you carry a concealed weapon inside or outside of your house, as long as it is locked inside a safe which you - and only you - have the combination. You can even put the safe on wheels and tow it behind you on a public thoroughfare. Sound reasonable? If I'm being too lax, I'm also willing to make you store the ammunition at a separate location under penalty of imprisonment and confiscation of all your assets.

This fair, commonsense proposal is subject to change, as I may arbitrarily determine that you don't have a legitimate reason to own a gun anyway.

If all the law abiding citizens lock up their guns, how would they ever protect themselves when very suddenly confronted with very bad people with bad intentions?

How does that work?

Uh...no.

My house...my rules and you have no voice in it.
