This experiment and all its kin are “Parlor Trick Physics”, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but all the same mind-bogglediness is present in the routine explanations of atomic structure and solid state quantum physics. Just sit and stare at a piece of aluminum foil for a while. That’ll blow your mind.
