More Babies, Please
The New York Times ^ | December 1, 2012 | ROSS DOUTHAT

IN the eternally recurring debates about whether some rival great power will knock the United States off its global perch, there has always been one excellent reason to bet on a second American century: We have more babies than the competition.

It’s a near-universal law that modernity reduces fertility. But compared with the swiftly aging nations of East Asia and Western Europe, the American birthrate has proved consistently resilient, hovering around the level required to keep a population stable or growing over the long run.

America’s demographic edge has a variety of sources: our famous religiosity, our vast interior and wide-open spaces (and the four-bedroom detached houses they make possible), our willingness to welcome immigrants (who tend to have higher birthrates than the native-born).

And it clearly is an edge. Today’s babies are tomorrow’s taxpayers and workers and entrepreneurs, and relatively youthful populations speed economic growth and keep spending commitments affordable. Thanks to our relative demographic dynamism, the America of 50 years hence may not only have more workers per retiree than countries like Japan and Germany, but also have more than emerging powers like China and Brazil.

If, that is, our dynamism persists. But that’s no longer a sure thing. American fertility plunged with the stock market in 2008, and it hasn’t recovered. Last week, the Pew Research Center reported that U.S. birthrates hit the lowest rate ever recorded in 2011, with just 63 births per 1,000 women of childbearing age. (The rate was 71 per 1,000 in 1990.) For the first time in recent memory, Americans are having fewer babies than the French or British.

That’s probably why the fundamentalists of most religions have a higher birth rate.

Thanks to the Supreme Court finding the right to murder babies in the Constitution, almost 60 million future taxpayers were killed before birth. The older generation who thought that was fine will now be exterminated in their old age because there aren’t enough taxpayers to pay their medical costs. Government has no morals when it comes to money.

What goes around comes around.

Maybe the homosexuals can find a way to create life. They say this is ‘natural’. Let’s see if Mother Nature responds with an affirmative YES.

The blacks are murdering themselves with abortion, as per the instructions of their racist masters in the rat party. The 30 IQ white Morlocks in the big cities like Seattle have more dogs than children.

Christians, meanwhile, are more than replacing themselves in the south. The baby shortage is a problem created by and imposed upon the leftist commies and Nazis here in America.

To be clear I am in no way pro-abortion. However, this statement is FAR from reality. Yes, there's been 60 million slaughtered (more than Mao), but unfortunately many, if not most, would not have been taxpayers, but instead tax-takers through welfare, learning such behavior in the dependent entitlist environment in which they were conceived and matured.

Demographics are destiny; the future belongs to those who procreate. Western Civilisation is aborting, buggering, contracepting and sterilizing itself out of existence. The social “left” has sold us the ABCS of cultural suicide.

My daughter has just had her 4th. I think she is done. Most of her friends have three and one even has five. Of course, they are all sucessful and husbands have good jobs.

You’re on a roll. White women and other American women distrust men like no other time in history. We’re all pigs to them. Also, the culture is really centered around women now, instead of family and children to everyone’s detriment.

Good point. A device of the Left.

Inevitably, the family is a factor one way or another. I doubt the average person wants to go to their grave wedded to, or breast feeding their ego.
