Britain this morning lifted its ban on shale gas exploration as it aims to become a European leader in a sector that has transformed the US energy market and counter a fall in the UKs natural gas production.
Europes largest gas consumer, Britain, had put a temporary stop to hydraulic fracturing or fracking for shale gas in May 2011, a process in which water and chemicals are injected at high pressure into rock formations to retrieve trapped gas, after earth tremors were measured near a fracking site close to Blackpool.
Fracking can resume immediately, but explorers need to operate under tighter rules including more thorough assessments for seismic risk and installing a so-called traffic light system where operations will be automatically stopped in certain conditions.

Chu, get a clue.
You got high hopes
Excellent. This should do wonders for the British economy as long as the hippies don’t do anything else to frustrate progress. In the US, this has had a sizable impact on the economy, despite being lumbered with the Obamateur....
I'm sure NYS is deciding how to scr** every last dime they can out of future drills...and guess what...the drillers will go to Pa, Virginia, Tenesee, Kentucky. It's not like we have a monopoly...we're just stuck on stupid.
I have personally witnessed left wing Democrat politicians here in Pennsylvania experiencing multiple orgasms at the thought of the gushers of new revenue that fracking was going to bring. The Greenies don’t stand a chance. They are going under the bus.
Do the mineral rights also belong to the land owner?
The state owns the mineral rights?
What scheme is used in England?
From what I understand (and bear in mind that I’m not a property lawyer) the Crown is assumed to own all land unless otherwise stated. Historically, land ownership only includes the surface and immediately above and below, not deep underground.
I think that this would mean that the shale gas belongs to the Crown and they would either sell or grant licenses to private companies to extract the wealth.
The land owner then has little to gain from a large ,loud... drill rig in his field.
A nice check each month may speed things along.
If the drill rig is on his land, he would of course profit from it, however, those owners of the surrounding land under which the drill was also active wouldn’t make a penny.
At least, that is how I understand it. Like I say, I’m not a property lawyer, this is only my rudimentary understanding of English property law.
ENERGY IS IT!!!
That is the leverage that humans have to deal with their environment. The liberals know that, and are determined to end it. That’s why this ‘green’ crap is everywhere. They know it will distract people, while they systematically disassemble our (real) energy infrastructure.
