Obama 'confident' GOP will relent on tax increases
Posted by CNN Political Unit
(CNN) - With tax hikes and federal spending cuts only weeks away, President Barack Obama said he is 'optimistic' a deal will be met to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff and anticipates Republicans will not hold middle-class taxes 'hostage' in budget negotiations.
"I remain optimistic that there are enough people of goodwill in this town that recognize our economy will be much better off; American families will be much better off if we get this done," the president said in an interview with Barbara Walters on ABC, which aired in part on Tuesday. "The most important thing we can do is make sure middle-class taxes do not go up on January 1st, and I'm pretty confident that Republicans would not hold middle class taxes hostage to try to protect tax cuts for high income individuals."
While the White House and Republicans leaders have swapped plans and spoken about the negotiations to tame the nation's debt, no deal has been met to avoid the series of automatic federal spending cuts and tax rate increases set to go into effect at the beginning of next year.
Obama, Boehner speak by telephone after GOP counter-offer
While Obama and Democrats' deficit plan calls for extending Bush-era tax cuts for 98% of Americans while allowing rates to return to higher 1990s levels on income over $250,000, Republicans advocate for an extension of the current tax rates for all tax brackets as well as reforming the tax code and closing tax loopholes and deductions to generate revenue.

SKYFALL
Whenever it says “Obama confident GOP will relent on ...”, you know that in that rare instance Obama is right.
Take me off your mailing list. You suck. You dont represent CONSERVATIVE values AT ALL and continually cave like a bunch of pussies. There is no reaching across the aisle with Democrats but you are obviously very happy to give a reach around and get nothing in return.
When you guys get a set of nuts [from a woman no less] and a fricking backbone, then contact me. But not one second before.
And, again, YOU SUCK. Thanks for sticking us with pansy ass candidates for the past two campaigns and screwing us out of a great country. So many men have died for the sake of AMERICA so you guys could screw it up by your lack of true conservative values. I am sure your grandfathers and great-grandfathers would be ashamed of the cowards you are today.
But, go ahead and cave to the dems again, you losers. Put your kneepads on and get the vaseline out. Go ahead and give us amnesty, unlimited welfare and sharia law. Go ahead. We ALL know you are too gutless to do anything about it but roll over. You gutless jerks."
Love it! This nation is gone, but I so enjoy watching others tell the Repub punks in DC where to stick their "compromise". While I understand that the takers now outnumber the producers, I am still amazed that cry-baby Boehner and the GOP don't really get the 2010 TEA Party revolution. The next election cycle will see less Pubbies and Conservatives voting than in 2012. I know I'm not voting Republican anymore.
Personally, I'm ready for everything to just fall apart. Got supplies? I have never been a conspiracy guy, but believe this Great Experiment doomed and the only way back is if it fails completely and we start over. So let's give them the chance, Speaker Boehner, while your golf/dinner dates start to erode as your best buds in DC are scrambling for their political survival. Good bye, you gutless prick.
1. Pass a house bill making the Bush tax cut for the middle class permanent.
2. Go Home.
There will be no GOP to worry about if they agree to rais any taxes during a recession. The debt ceiling must never be compromised as it is all Boehner has
I also fear they can’t credibly say - “Its’ the spending - stupid” and ensure any deal includes entitlement spending cuts NOW - not some promise for the future.
Anything less qualifies the Republican leadership as insane - the result will not be different this time if they cave.
Personally, I’m ready for everything to just fall apart. Got supplies?

Easy for you to say. I’m only 26 years old and I’m struggling under crushing debt and unemployment. I don’t have supplies and I don’t have the money for supplies either.
Luircin, I am sorry that the American people have let you down. I predict they will continue to do so.
