A professor at the University of Texas has sparked outrage by claiming black and Hispanic students are failing academically because they have been raised in single parent homes usually by females.
Law professor Lino Graglia was talking to the BBC when he said he could 'hardly imagine a less beneficial or more deleterious experience than to be raised by a single parent, usually female, uneducated and without a lot of money.'
He said the average black performance on SAT test is 200 points lower than that for the average white student and that among the black population almost three quarters of children are now born outside of marriage.
How well do these kids do in maths and reading is basically it and they do less well.

'And race or segregation or history wouldn't matter one bit if that was not the case.
'No doubt the race and segregation may have a lot to do why that's the case, but it is the case and what to do about it now?
'And admitting them into selective schools with large gaps in qualification is not the answer.'
Graglia is no stranger to controversy and was accused of racism in 1997 after telling a conservative student group that black and Mexican-American cultures 'set children up for failure'.
He said: 'They have a culture that seems not to encourage achievement.
'Failure is not looked upon with disgrace.'

Offendedness trumps truth in this crazy nutty country.
yes - we live in a rural poor area.
I see alot of what this article describes, but 99% here are white
the truth hurts.
A study comparing black male students from two-parent upper middle class families in the black bourgeois bastion of Prince George’s Co to white male students from poor families in West Virginia showed that the black male students had lower scores, higher drop-out rates and higher crime rates than the poorer white males.
Can those poor whites use affirmative action laws and policies?
Do they get extra weight added to their applications because they are white?
I hope this professor has lifetime tenure already!
“The truth hurts”
It’s all about aspirations.
I can’t imagine what it would be like to be Black in America and have the baggage of the public safety net and everyone telling me I am owed something. How could you overcome that?
What kind of punishment should these missing fathers face . . . ? Kudos to the prof for actually daring to be pro-family.
I’m not familiar with all the ins and outs of where affirmative action pays off - but there are alot people taking advantage of HUD/EBT/disability/unemployment and God knows what else.
I do believe whites get Obamaphones too
He's made similar comments for decades.
I don’t know. Looking at Zimbabwe, the new South Africa, etc, I’d say it’s not only America, for one thing.
Closer to the truth. The kids spend more daylight hours in school than they do with their moms. Guess where those teachers were taught, PROFESSOR?
Sheesh.
There was a mention in "The Bell Curve" as well, that blacks in the upper 10% of income had lower SAT scores than whites in the bottom 10%.
Neuroscience is the area where people should look for solutions to poor black academic and life performance.
This is a rare. An academic telling a hard truth. Usually political correctness obscures the truth. Political correctness has become customary in this country with most public discussions. Politically correct speakers are spewing nonsense and if they actually believe what they say, they are dangerous fools.
