If you substitute a more appropriate word for “built,” he wouldn’t be that far off.

What they’re really talking about is giving you the right to work for less money.

If that were true, why does he feel that its OK to interfere with my right to do so? He certainly seems OK with dictating that "the rich" work for less.

Yes, Detroit is a perfect representative of what unions and liberal entitlement philosophy can do for all of us. I encourage all of America to study Detroit closely.

The sad thing isn’t that he says it. We now know a great number of imbeciles believe whatever comes out of his mouth...regardless of any factual basis. For about 2.5 years I thought enough people saw through this crap. Now I am just sad to see that is not the case.

to see how unions have helped build

Higher wages, higher pension cost, higher medical cost and lower profits.

Private enterprise built the original Michigan middle class. In know because I was there when Michigan (the southeastern part) was a great place to live.

What killed Detroit was federal regulation, forced busing, democratic mayors and their sponge-worthy sycophants who can't get enough of taxpayer bacon.

Detroit is pretty much a Worker's Paradise now. Yeah, they are all in charge and they are all cashing in all their Obama coupons.

Great response from the Michigan GOP.

Michigan Republican Party chairman Bobby Schostak issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s visit to Michigan today:

“It’s interesting that President Obama has chosen to stop in Michigan to propose his economic recovery plan of higher taxes, more spending and broken budgets. Here in Michigan we’ve seen actual economic recovery by streamlining government, cutting taxes and balancing budgets.

“The President’s divisive message and attack on Michigan workers is just another indication of how out of touch Pres. Obama has become. President Obama’s continued attempt to subvert state rights is an assult on our federal system.

“I encourage the former law professor and our current President brush up on the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, ‘The powers not delegated to the United states by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.’

“The President’s stance is a blatant attack on Michigan workers and demonstrates the President’s staunch support of special interest union bosses. Thankfully, Michigan Republican leaders are here to provide a firewall for Michigan workers and their families and to keep Michigan’s turnaround on course.”

President Barack Obama lashed out at the Michigan legislature for passing a right-to-work law and declared that Americans only needed to look at Michigan if they wanted to see how unions helped build the middle class

Ah, Mr. President - "One only needs to look to MI - and Detroit specifically - to see what Liberalism does to create rot from the inside out. RAT policies - including unionism - produced a city that is considering filing bankruptcy and is currently bulldozing down neighborhoods that have stood vacant for year.

If unions were all that the Food Stamp President and his commie friends say, a right-to-work law would have absolutely no effect on union membership because they would all be lined up to join anyway. Wisconsin unions, how’s that working out for you? Oops, no one will belong voluntarily except for the union bosses and other commies.

Also interesting.

Mitchell poll: Michigan voters favor right-to-work, 51-41

By union household: A strong majority (56 percent) of non-union households support right-to-work. Support among union households is only at 40 percent.
