What’s the point? No matter what Repubs do they will be blamed for the crushing depression coming. I say let it happen, let the Republican Party die. Maybe a glimmer of hope something betteer will replacement it next election cycle.

When one says “no matter what Repubs do”, what exactly have they done? I see a long string of bipartisan (and sometimes unilateral) leftism out of the GOP dating back decades, and naught but lip service towards conservatives and conservatism. I do not see them suddenly changing into a genuine conservative party.

What most people ought to take out of this...by 2016, the national debt will have doubled from what it is today. To operate with this kind of situation on a international basis....you eventually will become a joke and even the head of government of Luxembourg will ask if he should loan you some money or send some free cheese over.

Somewhere in the next decade, there will be a huge cut on government services and jobs. You can put it off...but it’s simply piling up each week and growing bigger.

What’s the point? No matter what Repubs do they will be blamed for...

...both, raising taxes AND pushing granny off a cliff with "spending cuts".
The scumbag Democrats have absolutely nothing at stake, no "skin in the game" whatsoever.

Since it's strictly a lose-lose proposition for the Republicans, let's go over the freaking cliff already and point a finger at Ubama for his insistence on a symbolic, drop-in-the-bucket tax rate hike on America's employers, a tax hike that would cost jobs.

(shrug)

There really is no other option that makes sense. Republicans would still get most of the blame - - the Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms would make sure of that - - but at least the GOP wouldn't be committing party suicide. Going over the "fiscal cliff" would demand explanations, and at least the Republican side would get an airing. People admire politicians who stick to their principles, even if they disagree with them, and lose respect for those who cave.

I just can't believe the Republicans are going to cave. I think they are playing Ubama's game merely so they can say at the end - - as the nation goes over the cliff - - that they "did everything they could to get a deal" but Ubama simply "failed to lead". History will record that the fiscal cliff nightmare that led to global depression happened on Ubama's watch.
