Substantial damages : damages that are calculated to place the plaintiff in the same condition as he was prior to the injury, as far as monetary claim can do it. ( This can include the cost of establishing a whole new identity in this case, and can run into the millions of dollars, but will also include the entiore legal expense of defending his case brought on by inflaming the public against a valid case of self defence, damages for mental and physical suffering)This will be a claim of millio0ns of dollars

Exemplary damages: Are also called in some jurisdictions “punitive damages,” designed to punish the defendant so it will deter the plaintiff or any other person from perpetrating such damages on an individual again in the future.This will be a claim in the millions or even in the billion dollar range, since it must be an amount large enough to have an impact on the finances of the defendant.
