DeMint Move Ignites Talk of 2016 Presidential Run

South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint’s surprise announcement that he will leave the U.S. Senate in January to take over leadership of the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank has ignited speculation among grass-roots conservatives that DeMint may use the new post as a launching pad for a presidential bid in 2016.

“Jim DeMint will have a bigger microphone than before,” conservative direct-marketing pioneer Richard Viguerie tells Newsmax. “If he wants to, this opens up a lot more opportunities for him. I think there’s a decent chance that he’ll be a serious presidential candidate in four years.”

Viguerie called the move to Heritage “an intermediate step.”

“It’s going to be a boon to the cause, to Heritage,” he said. “And it gives [DeMint] a major opportunity to run for president in four years. And if so, he would be the instant front-runner among most conservatives.” …

On the Rush Limbaugh show today Dement said that Harry Reid was a very good friend of his.

As far as I’m concerned he just sank below the surface of the sewer, and the bubbles have stopped rising.

How can U.S. conservatism win future U.S. elections, when “the takers” are now the majority of U.S. voters? Also, amnesty for illegal immigrants will create many new pro-leftist voters, which will succeed in increasing the divide between the total number of leftist voters and the total number of conservative voters, for a very long time!

A question has been raised as to whether the GOP gave DeMint the boot through the door to get him out of the leadership of the Senate Tea Party Caucus and conservatives in Congress in general.

I have no idea but Boehner is carrying out a purge of conservatives, which, if the Tea Party Caucus and other sympathetic Republicans have the will to fight, they might be able to overthrow Bonehead and his bunch of spineless losers.

As I wrote yesterday, all they have to do is to withdraw their support for Boehner and Friends on several key votes, whether for appropriations, supporting a deal with Obama, etc, or even just showing up and voting PRESENT. While this will ensure a Democrat victory, it will be a major bitchslap demonstration aka a Vote of No Confidence in Boehner’s leadership.

Also, as I understand it, if he does not get 218 votes to retain his House leadership, he is out.

Any way you look at it, he has got to go.

Right now the Republicans (GOP) look and act like wimps, cowards, and little lost children thanks to Boehner. His increasingly authoritarian approach to internal dissent is making him seem just like Obama and Reid.

Way to go John! Now you are becoming the enemy.

I’m hoping that Michelle Bachmann and a couple of the “boys” will refuse to cooperate with him, even to the point of leaving the Republican Party if Boehner stays in power.

The GOP needs the Tea Party Caucus, not the other way round.

The winds are changing direction and the GOP is downwind of one big smelly political revolt fart.

If Boehner is going to act like a political skunk, let him smell like one to, to the voters and the people who fund the GOP. Remember the old saying, “Money talks, Bullshit walks” and I’m tired of the GOP treating principled conservatives like bullcrap.

This time Boehner has stepped in it, real good and deep, so the conservatives should scrap him off the shoe of the GOP like one would dog crap. He is neither principled or strong-willed, and his tactics over the past two years have been abject failures, a reflection of and on himself.

We have not time for failures in this fight to regain the soul of our country. We cannot have “weak sisters” in our ranks because we must be able to trust our fellow conservatives to live up to high political standards but also not to be afraid of the right fight.

In other words, re Boehner and the Tea Party, and conservatives in general, “Shit or get off the pot.”

Allen West and other “young Turks” are rearing to go into the battle and take the fight to our real enemies, the Liberals, Democrats and Marxists, right up to, into and over the White House (aka the Red House).

A cheer for the Tea Party should be:

“We’ve got the spirit, we’ve got the guts,
We’ve got Boehner by the nuts, pull team, pull!”

Unless things go from bad to worse to the end times there will not be a repulican president elected in our lifetimes for many of the reasons you mentioned. 2008 was about the last time we had a demographic chance....many people knew 2012 was out of reach. Massive LEGAL immigration is what killed us. 40 million poor people from the third world imported into the USA since 1965. Story over.

If Obama decides to call the Republican’s bluff and allow the taxes to go back up for 100% of tax payers, there are going to be a lot of unhappy Republicans too. What a lot of people don’t realize is that if the move to keep 98% of people who earn below $250,000 at current levels succeeds, even the 2% will not have an increase on the first $250,000 of income. Thus if a person earns $300,000. The increase of I think about 4.5% would mean an increase in taxes of $2,250, not a terribly painful amount for someone earning that much.

Before 1965 immigration to the U.S. came mainly from Europe and so were white people. The DEMOCRATs purposefully passed the 1965 immigration act to change immigration so that it would come from the 3rd world and would be non-white immigrants. so we have at least 40 million poor non-white immigrants from the 3rd world who vote democrat. This was all a diabolical scheme by the democrats to use racial marxism to turn the U.S.A into a socialist state, to take our country away from us, to take away our freedom, our wealth, our opportunity and our birthright. And what do we do about it? Do we do what the Egyptians are doing fighting and protesting in the street? No we sit on our asses and turn on the TV to watch football . In South Africa they are genociding whites. think it won't happen here?

Might have been just a tiny “left jab” followed by a “Gigantic Right Hook” in 2016.

Gotta disarm your opponents. I’m in business on the retail, wholesale and distributor level and laying out the honey draws the flies to where you can see them and destroy them.

Politics is a bloodsport and me thinks the senator from SC knows exactly what he’s doing.

I don’t get the why of this, the surprise of this...I don’t think it’s a Presidential run thing though.

What could it be? I feel like he is letting us all down at the worst moment in history by saying “I quit”.

Could his paycheck/benes could be more at Heritage than US govt?

I like him, just wonder why now and think wierd!

even to the point of leaving the Republican Party

Boehner has a great leadership style. Wouldn't it be fun if one day he woke up to dozens of new "independents?"

Effecting much of anything at the ballot box is a complete lost cause for precisely the reasons you’ve given and the trend will only worsen.

And Reagan praised Tip O’Neill, democrat speaker of the house.

Privately, O’Neill and Reagan were always on cordial terms, or as Reagan himself put it in his memoirs, they were friends “after 6PM”.

What you and many on here don’t understand is that all of them on Capitol Hill are friends once they leave the chamber. They dine together too. So, I guess we’ll have to say no thank you to everyone of them????

I will take DeMint over La Raza Rubio (and the other La Raza Republicans thinking of running), even with DeMint leaving the US Senate

The GOP cannot win in 2016 running Cuban RINOs thinking they will get Mexican and Puerto Rican voters that way. The GOP and its Liberal wing needs to get over fetish for Rubio and the other La Raza RINOs

Ya know, I had a nephew had his skull fractured by a gang of blk kids after a Celtics game last week around Boston. His wife and my nephew were walking to their vehicle from an eatery after the game when attacked by a bunch of them. My nephew is a big boy, played sports, body builder, yet still when 5-6 of them bust your head off the cobblestones; your skull is going to crack. He had mentioned once that he needed to get a gun for protection as bad as things were getting. I bet he'll get one now.

I don't live within 200 miles of any African Americans; when I leave the house the 1911 is on my belt; couldn't imagine what it is like nowadays in cities down there.

I wanted DeMint this year. Actually, I wanted almost anyone but Romney, but DeMint was with Palin at the top of my list. I’m not sure he has what it takes for 2016. If he’s going to go for it, he needs to start campaigning now and make it perfectly clear that he is in the race (same for Sarah - I love her, but I’d like a commitment within the next few months from either of them). What we need is a prominent, articulate conservative clearly in the race so the rest of the true conservatives will stay out. We have to avoid dividing our forces, which would allow the establishment to shove Christie or another Bush down our throats, just like Dole, McCain, and Romney were chosen as bland enough for the GOP leadership.

BUMP.

Teddy Kennedy must be grinning in Hades. His plan to destroy the country by importing masses of third-worlders worked like a charm. And yet there are even FReepers who will say, “we’re not against LEGAL immigration, just illegal immigration.” The result is the same either way if the type of immigrant imported is more interested in goodies than freedom.

Exactly the problem. I want NEW BLOOD and those that have been there for many elections need to be fired. ALL INCUMBENTS ARE THE PROBLEM. Our system was never designed for a permanent political class. We will never get term limits so it is up to us.

I’ve been saying for years it’s the LEGAL immigration.....some illegals vote, most don’t. Anyway the numbers are in their favor now. We no longer have the ability to reverse it. Set. Game. Match. It’s over here for the kind of small government we want.
