Sen. Jim DeMint to Head Heritage Foundation (leaving US Senate in January)
WSJ ^

Posted on 12/06/2012 7:31:44 AM PST by Perdogg

South Carolina U.S. Senator Jim DeMint will replace Ed Feulner as president of the Heritage Foundation. Mr. DeMint will leave his post as South Carolina's junior senator in early January to take control of the Washington think tank, which has an annual budget of about $80 million.

Sen. DeMint's departure means that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a Republican, will name a successor, who will have to run in a special election in 2014. In that year, both Mr. DeMint's replacement and Sen. Lindsey Graham will be running for reelection in South Carolina.

WHY is he doing this? DeMint is the best guy we had in the US Senate!

Who should Gov. Nikki Haley appoint as his temporary replacement?

Maybe he’s making inroads for a run at the White House in ‘16.

"I think this mutes his voice and takes him, almost completely, out of the equation."

Agreed. Has anyone heard Ed Feulner's name mentioned even once during this past election cycle?

Congrats to Senator Tim Scott (R)

I like it! If not Scott, maybe Senator Trey Gowdy?

I like the line from Erik Erickson at Redstate: Obi Wan Kenobi’s “if you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!”

DeMint is moving to a position of leadership and influence in the conservative movement. Both he and Palin will be recruiting candidates across the country.

Thanks to DeMint, we now have senators Toomey, Rubio, Cruz, Flake, Lee, Paul and Johnson. We could have had a senator Steelman but the people of Missouri failed to listen to Sarah. There would have been no rape issue if a woman had been the republican nominee in Missouri, which means we would have in all likelyhood have had a senator Mourdock as well.

DeMint knows the senate from the inside out, and knows the games they play. He can train candidates. And also, he won’t need to worry about any pressure to endorse his fellow senator from SC, Lindsay Grahamnesty in 2014.

And with a solid conservative as the governor of SC, we’ll get a solid replacement for him and we’ll be ready for two elections in SC in 2014.

I think this is a good thing. The conservative movement now has a leader. Let’s get behind him!

I shall miss Jim, he was the spine of the Senate.

Same here. This is tragic...

Yep. You got a point.

At least he’s not going to appear on Reality TV shows. Or (worse) go to work for Fox News.

(lolol)

No big thing for me. I left the Republican Party (Read: Mensheviks) too. I told them not to call me again.

Time for a third Party folks.

Pubs are dead and cannot be saved. They are to far gone. Infiltrated by the Bolsheviks.

Bolsheviks = Dems. Mesheviks = Pubs. Same philosophy different methods.

Wake up America.

Maybe he’s making inroads for a run at the White House in ‘16. I hope so.

And I'm sure that FR's PDS posse will call him a "quitter" just like they do for Gov. Palin, right? (I'm not going to hold my breath on that, by the way...)

I just hope our Gov. Haley doesn’t decide on a bit of a political play just before HER 2014 re-election and nominate some RINO or worse a Democrat as to be “Bi-Partisan”.

Gov. Haley wouldn't appoint a democRAT, would she??

Great analysis and I agree. He can do better on the outside which is what we need desperately right now.

Good day for Lindsay Graham, pretty much means he won’t see any real threat to his reelection bid.

If it were up to me Nikki would take it herself and leave her Lt. Governor as Governor. What's going around at the watercooler probably doesn't include that option.

“Going Galt.....”

Methinks we will all likely do that in short order....

I think DeMint is escaping the purge of tea party advocates from the GOP in the DC crudhole....I just heard Judd Gregg on CNBC dissing DeMint for his beliefs....More or less insinuated “good riddance”.....”see Ya!”....don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out......

I think we may be witnessing the demise of the GOP as the Democrats with the aid of numerous Quislings, has driven a wedge into the party....

It's war folks.....make your shots count and don't use full auto....We will need to conserve ammo for the duration....

Truly mixed emotions. I love Heritage, and DeMint is a great gain for that group.

Sad, though, because JD was a stalwart conservative and a big gain for the cause in the Senate.
