Reid blocks Senate vote on Obama's deficit-reduction plan By Ramsey Cox - 12/05/12 04:03 PM ET
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday offered an amendment to force a vote on President Obamas deficit-reduction plan, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was having none of it.
Last week [Treasury] Secretary [Tim] Geithner brought up a proposal that was so unserious, McConnell said on the floor. I would like to see if my Democratic friends would like to support it.
McConnell suggested that the Senate vote on what he called the presidents ridiculous plan as an amendment to the Russian trade bill that is being considered.
Reid, however, objected to McConnells suggestion, saying the Russian trade bill, H.R. 6156, is about job creation not political stunts from Republicans.
The purpose of this bill is to protect American jobs, Reid said. Are we going to get serious here and legislate or is this more of the political stunts that the Republican leader is going to pull today?
The majoiority leader's objection removes the amendment from consideration.
McConnell said he wasnt surprised Democrats didnt want to vote on Obamas plan, which he said raises taxes on small businesses.
Not a single Senate Democrat has stepped forward to support it and if you look at it you can see why, McConnell said. It increases taxes.
Obamas plan released last week, calls for $1.6 trillion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to entitlement programs, plus a new $50 billion stimulus plan. Democrats want to raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 a year. The plan would also allow the president to raise the debt ceiling without action from Congress, something lawmakers heavily oppose.
McConnell added that he'd be happy to have a stand-alone vote on the president's plan rather than attaching it to legislation as an amendment.
Go to hell Reid!!!
OK...can we refrain from bashing McConnell on this ONE thread and point criticism at Reid instead?
And take the fast train.
Since Obamugabe has continued the campaign, the Republicans need to do the same thing. Start buying air time and holding news conferences reiterating the truth about the Kenyan assclown.
Not a single Senate Democrat has stepped forward to support it and if you look at it you can see why, McConnell said. It increases taxes.
Then we should get a vote on it...lets stop ZERO in his tracks!!
“Since Obamugabe has continued the campaign, the Republicans need to do the same thing. Start buying air time and holding news conferences reiterating the truth about the Kenyan assclown.”
All the Republicans have to do is bring up for a vote making the Bush tax cuts permanent. Since Democrats now say it affects everyone instead of only the wealthy they and the media claimed it benefitted for 8 years.

AGREED
Do nothing. Let it all fall apart. Raise the taxes on everyone. If the GOP is going to get blamed then who cares? Let the Dems have 2014 and make it worse.
No jobs, no money, no government assitance (since they’re broke) and lots of red tape. Add in Obamacare and let all the complacent little twerps who never vote SUFFER!
Don’t come whining to me when the feces hits the fan.
bttt
Senate Leader Blocks President’s Deficit Reduction Plan, Fiscal Cliff and Depressionb Guaranteed.
oops wrong party
Kudos to Mitch. Let’s see some backup from fellow Republicans. Let’s see some piling on like the bastards across the aisle always do to us. Then, while we’re at it, let’s make the monkeys in the “media” jump around and chatter a little bit. It’s called FIGHTING BACK!!!! I’m tired of looking up the word “pussy” in the dictionary, and seeing pictures of Republicans peeking back at me.
DITTO!!
That was excellent strategy. Why not SHOUT it from the rooftops. Mention it on every Sunday program coming up. Obama’s own Senate leader denied a vote on his boss’s
solution to the financial cliff. Inform the people.
McConnell is a pussy for not bitch slapping Reid.
