New York State Senate Democrats are furious today over an unprecedented agreement reached by Republicans and conservative-leaning Democrats who disbanded from their party to form their own caucus.
The move forms a "bipartisan governing coalition" between Republicans and the Independent Democratic Conference, just a month after Democrats won a numerical majority in the chamber.
Under the agreement, Republicans and the IDC will shift control every two weeks between GOP Leader Dean Skelos and IDC Leader Jeffrey Klein. On Tuesday, Sen. Malcolm Smith, a Democrat from Queens, became the fifth Democrat to defect and join the IDC.

#ing glorious!!!
LOL.....good stuff:)
Dang ! Maybe there’s hope for my state after all......
If not, at least it pisses some Dems off, so I’ll take it.
The Republicans in NY aren’t exactly renown for their conservatism. So this is most likely just a power play by a few ambitious democrats, rather than any sort of ideological or principled realignment.
Should have figured most where Rino’s. They have spines.
Surprising the final split was Malcolm Smith (D, Queens). Not much to indicate he’d be ‘conservative’ tho probably a vast swath of his blue collar constituents would be.
The state Senate is the only legislative body whose control is ever contested, with Democrats and Republicans having very narrrow margins at any given time ... so this results in all kinds of political games like this being played out in Albany.

He wants to run for Mayor as a Republican
Seems to me the Dems were pretty happy when Jumpin Jim Jeffords screwed the Republicans back in 2001.
Did you read where Bloomberg recently reached out to Hillary! and encouraged her to run for mayor of NYC? She's not even a resident but Mr. Third Term Worm thought Carpetbag Queen might want a change of pace. Evidently she is not interested.
You are so right. It’s all about corruption in Albany.
The article doesn’t address the most fascinating question, which would be “Why the defections from the Democrat Party?”
serioualy?
F’em if they can’t take a joke (mick Jagger 1978 about Jesse Jackson and others objecting to their Some Girls Album”
well, Bloomie went D to R so he could take the easier primary route to run for mayor, why not Smith?
this is the way it should be done IMO....like minded people should ban together to have power over the machine politics....IIRC...Alaska does this as well...
