Former President George W. Bush ambled back into the spotlight Tuesday to laud legal immigration, a decade after he helped inflate the real-estate bubble to its 2007 peak while trying to boost homeownership among Hispanics.
America is a nation of immigrants. Immigrants can help build a dynamic tomorrow. They invigorate our soul, Bush said at the keynote speech of a one-day symposium on immigrations role in the economy at the Dallas-based George W. Bush Institute.
Growing up in Texas we have had the honor and privilege of meeting many of the newly arrived, the former president said. They see education as bright future for their children, some will willingly defend the flag.
That pitch was echoed by several panel speakers, including Steven Moore, a libertarian economist and columnist at the Wall Street Journal. On one trip to border farms, Moore enthused, he met a crop-picking Mexican who was working three low-wage jobs.
Thats the kind of person we need in this country, he declared.

Go away Bush!!
You hopeless turd!!
Sigh.
Time to bring that tea party thing on line and dump the RINO party altogether. What a bunch of pair shaped losers.(to quote Mr. Kruger)
They invigorate our soulNot really.
Hey George, Obama and the democrats are demolishing the nation and using your administration's mistakes as the excuse. How about defending yourself instead of pimping for the hispanic lobby?
"Helping them to fraudulently obtain Social Security cards and driver's licenses as well as food stamps and other social welfare services always brought a warm feeling to my heart," he continued. "But once we found them substandard living quarters - sometimes packing up to 20 persons into a single-family dwelling - and put them to work in the fields harvesting vegetables - underbidding legal citizens, of course - we, in our Gated Communities, didn't really see much of them any more," he added.
Regards,
Why? Is Mr Moore thinking of buying a cotton plantation?
Oh, yeah—those Texan immigrants do so well in educating themselves.
The Bushes have been a pox upon our country.
The two Bush's were very happy to greatly expand domestic spending. I don't think GW vetoed any bill until well into his second term.
Two votes I regret. W and mccain. Well, actually, I didn’t vote for mccain. I voted for Palin.
People can flame me all they want but this country had an opportunity to get it’s finances in shape in 1992. And GHW Bush shouldn’t have even been Reagan’s running mate.
Line jumpers. Americans hate line jumpers. Illegals are line jumpers, shoving their way in front of legal immigrants awaiting their just turn. What about that don’t people understand?
The NAU - still alive and kickin!
“Stay out da Bushes!”
what an idiotic and insulting statement. Spoken like a true arrogant elitist.
No George they will NOT invigorate our soul. Very few illegals have any interest in assimilating at all. They are here to out populate Americans. They are here to change out culture for the worse.
Very few illegals have a culture or desire to educate themselves.
In 50 years time what remains of the US will be a Balkinized, decaying socialist H*ll brought about the likes of the Bush's and all other Statists.
We are not necessarily a nation of immigrants. Nearly all my ancestors which we have been able to trace were here before this was a country.
They created a new country and built it with hard work, great sacrifice and intelligence. They came to the new world looking for freedom and a chance to improve their life.
They did not come seeking welfare. They were proud of their heritage but considered themselves Americans first. I of course never met them but suspect they would never have cheered for a foreign country over their own.
Bush is truly a jackass.
That is the proper and harmonious way to keep things in balance, and I expect the RINOs to start advocating forced emigration any day now. :)
