Although the guy in the photo holding up a crucifix is NOT holding a Koran in the other hand, as the article states, unless they have taken to putting crosses on the covers of Korans...he looks to me like a Copt who is very, very worried about what might happen.
That looks like prayer book (I have a Greek Orthodox prayer book and the cover is very similar), although it could be a bible. No way it’s a Koran. Not to mention we don’t know at what event this person was participating.
