In John Horgan's book,
The End of Science( 1996, ) he has a section in Chapter Three,
The End of Physics, headed
Feynman's Gloomy Prophecy. This was namely that particle physics would stagnate and "the philosopher's would take over". Horgan writes, "Feynman's vision was uncannily on target. He erred only in thinking that it would be millenia, not decades, before the philosophers closed in."
This is a great book, required reading.
