The best thing the Republicans could do right now is to give Obama everything that he wants. Those of us who think, rather than feel, understand that Obama’s course will end up with the United States going bankrupt, because there isn’t enough money on the planet, much less the US, to pay for all the goodies the Democrats want to bestow on their favored constituents.... Thinking that Americans will come to their senses and opt for responsible leaders is a pipe dream, one which I personally indulged in up to November 6th. Neither party wants to fix what’s actually wrong, they just want to maintain the status quo and hope the problems work themselves out, while hardworking and productive people are stuck with the bill.... So, let’s give the electorate what they asked for: slower growth, more unemployment, more poverty and less upward mobility for everyone. Perhaps then we can get back to America’s founding principles, including hard work and self-reliance....

Indeed, elections have consequences! Even elections premised on a massive flight from reality — e.g., in the Real World, there is not enough money to pay for the vast social welfare agency the federal government has become. [I would like to know what Constitutional warrant justifies this transmogrification of federal powers.] If the political class in Washington wants to pretend that everything's hunky-dorey, that things will just work themselves out if we tax people enough — well, when the whole American system crashes because of their fecklessness, we'll know who to blame.

If America reverts to recession or worse as a consequence of federal fiscal (and monetary) irresponsibility, just think how that may affect the rest of the world economy. I predict there are very dark days ahead, because I believe that 0bama, in his arrogance, has doubled down on his call to raise tax rates on the wealthiest Americans, while doing nothing about reining in entitlement spending. I do not believe he will back off; and I do believe the GOP will cave. (They always do, gutless wonders that they are.)

FWIW.

Thanks so much for posting this article from CFP, Perseverando!

betty, Obama wants to break the system. He wants the free market to fail and his true, unadulterated arrogance is that he thinks he can control the consequences of that failure and leave himself and his cronies in power. He will not. If the system fails, there will be a bloodletting and horrific chaos and fighting like has never been witnessed in the history of this Republic, or modern history. The US Civil War was among the bloodiest Civil Wars in History. US CWII will break that mold should it come...and if the economy totally tanks and brings down the currency with it...which it will...then as soon as transportations stops, ALL of the major cities will turn into killing fields within a week or two. There will not be enogh State or Federal aid, troops, polic, etc. to prevent it. And many of them will simply not show up as they attempt to save their own. We are not the country that went through the great depression. We are a country where the vast majority have no comprehension of where their own food comes from and as soon as the place they think it comes from...the local Safeway, Albertsons, WALMART superstore or whatever runs out...and they consume the day or two of food they have in their cupboards (if that), well, hungry people quickly turn to whatever means they can device to eat...and it will get very ugly. I pray God we can avoid that because I do not believe people who wish for it have any comprehension of where it will lead or precisely that very, very few Americans...including they themselves...will be "safe" in the results. Perhaps that is what it will take...we may be too far gone to avoid it. I still pray God we are not too far gone and that through His Grace and aid, enough of us can hold on, fight, influence others, and have a chance to still turn it around at the ballot box with a deluge of Tea Party congressmen and ultimately Senators who will change things. If we cannot, then the Storm that is coming will be the likes of which has never been experienced by any developed nation. If so, I pray God for us all, that He may yet have mercy on us and allow us to pass through that storm and regain our Constitutional Republic on the other side. Very well said, as always, betty.

I believe that 0bama, in his arrogance, has doubled down on his call to raise tax rates on the wealthiest Americans, while doing nothing about reining in entitlement spending.

In virtually every one of his campaign speeches over the past year, and every one of his comments on taxation since his election, the major policy upon which he is building his plan for economic recovery is increasing taxes on 'the rich'. Yet every economist worth his salt realizes that that practice will amount to a drop in the bucket as regards reducing the deficit or lowering the debt.

Obama himself knows this full well. So why does he continue to insist that higher taxation of the rich will be the cure-all for the economy? It has nothing to do with a desire for a healthier economy on his part. But rather it has to do with his covert desire to punish small business (and success in general), further weaken the economy, and push America toward the cliff that is a prerequisite to instituting Cloward-Piven directed strategies that will allow him to 'rebuild America' from the ashes in his own image.

What an anti-American narcissist we have residing in our Oval Office.

Best to you, betty --
