According to the Bible, the earth is flat, it is at the center of everything that exists, the sky is a "firmament" which seems to be a kind of curtain upon which all of the stars and sun are attached, water surrounds the earth and firmament, and animals (consisting of carbon compounds) all popped fully formed out of dirt (consisting of silicates) ~6,000 years ago. Scientific observation supports none of that.

Chapter and verses please......

FWIW,

Gen 1:1 In the beginning.....

There was a beginning supported by the Big Bang Theory and Einstein’s equations and Hubble’s observations.

Gen 1:2 The earth was formless and void,...

Supported by the solar nebula theory and the proto earth.

Gen 1:20 ”Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures,

Scientists say that life arose in the seas.

Gen 1:24 ”Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind...

Gen 2:7 Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground,

“Shaped from clay [origin of life]”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1515522/posts

Scientists have concluded that clay was necessary for the formation of life.

Scripture describes the circulating system of winds.

Eccles 1:6 Blowing toward the south, Then turning toward the north, The wind continues swirling along; And on its circular courses the wind returns.

The Bible also describes the water cycle.

Eccles 1:7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again.

Blood is necessary for life. The life is in the blood.

Lev 17:10-12 `And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. `For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’ “Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, `No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood.’

Earth is round. Could also refer to the orbit of the earth as seen from space. Also, in those verses, the expansion of the universe.

Isa 40:22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.

Job 9:5,8 ”It is God who removes the mountains, they know not how, When He overturns them in His anger; 8.Who alone stretches out the heavens And tramples down the waves of the sea;

All things are being held together; gravitation, strong and weak nuclear forces, magnetism.

Col 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

I'm sorry, but where did I say anything about a "godless religious worldview"?

The following ( your words) are the very definition of an education that is solidly and irrefutably godless in its worldview. If Sister Mary Victoria ( my 7th grade nun) were still alive she would be more than happy to straighten you out, if you continued to be confused about this point.

Your exact words:

Unless the subject is specifically religion related, I see no reason religion should be discussed in any class. We don't, for example, discuss integral calculus in English class, or the declension of Latin nouns in intermediate band class. And the only reason you would see something religious about the topics of biology/geology/astrophysics etc., is because you are injecting a religious component to those subjects where none exists.

In other words, you could not find a single example in all of the 6 or 7 thousand posts I've made on FR where I actually expressed a godless world view. You are making the same false assumption promoted by many of the creationist quacks, that someone who studies science and fails to relate every single word they say on any subject to Jesus is a flaming atheist.

In my and my husband's Catholic schooling there was more than enough reason an opportunity to discuss religion in all of the classes that you mentioned above. In our family's homeschool as well. Gee! How did our family ever get to be so successful? Amazing isn't it?

Finding a reason to inject religion into every discussion is not the same as religion being an integral part of the subject. Did you also inject discussions of the equally relevant religions of Buddhism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, Islamism, Hinduism, etc., into your homeschool calculus or Latin classes?

And since you mention that you are Catholic, I'll point out that the Catholic church (as do most organized denominations) accepts the scientific theory of evolution.

Wikipedia: Catholic Church and evolution

New York Times: Many Catholics Welcome Pope's Statement on Evolution

I have found that most literal creationism is promoted by a bunch of charlatans who care more about separating people from their money than they do about people's souls.

In any case, I am not sure why someone wanted to turn this into a science vs. creationism thread, since the article at the top is about withholding care from babies in order to save money in a socialist health care system. They are completely unrelated topics.

If it weren't for compulsory, socialist-funded, and single-payer K-12 government schooling, macro-evolution would be only be of interest to a handful scientists actually working in this field of study.

Solution: Complete privatization of K-12 schooling.

You get to send kids to schools that support and uphold your worldview.

I get to send kids to schools of my choice ( which by the way would support evolution theory).

And,..Our neighbors would get schools best suited to their worldview.

So?.....Who could complain about that? Well...It is an anecdotal observation of mine that the biggest bullies and supporters of compulsory government owned and run schools are evolutionists.

For the simple reason that the sciences must stick to the actual physical nature of the world, your fantasy that the study of evolution would somehow disappear if all children were sent to private schools cannot become reality. Or, your fantasy were to (somehow) become reality, it would be at the cost of all of the technological and medical advances we all pretty much take for granted. Whether you are talking about geology, physics, biology, chemistry, etc., the fact is that it is utterly impossible for science to proceed without taking factual data into account. Evolution is not of interest only to a "handful" of scientists; it is a crucial concern to many scientists, especially if they work in the realm of public health. Without understanding how evolution shapes microbiology, we wouldn't have a shred of hope of being able to counteract the diseases that are always emerging.

Solution: Complete privatization of K-12 schooling.

I hate, loathe, and detest public schools. I think they breed bullying--not because they are constrained only to teaching academic subjects without injecting religion into every classroom, but because of attitudes that "kids will be kids" and lax oversight. However, I am also a realist. Many parents would not be able to afford private schools. I grew up in a broken welfare family; in a system of completely private schools, I wouldn't have been able to attend school at all, much less continue on to get a Ph.D. For all of the problems of bullying, I did get a halfway decent education in the public schools. There is no way I'd be okay with telling poor children they haven't a prayer of ever escaping their poverty through education.

I can not defend a strawman of your creation. I have never stated that the study of evolution would disappear. It would be of great interest to those scientists in this specific field and of little importance and concern to those who are not.

Ah! Here it is! Scratch a Evolution-pusher and underneath is a government school defender. I have never known an exception.

A strawman, really? Aren't you the one making the wild claim that evolution is only of interest to "those scientists in this specific field"? That rather (conveniently) ignores the fact that evolution impacts biology rather heavily, and the whole process of the evolution of the universe, formation of the earth, evolution of the earth, etc., is of interest to many scientists who do not study biology. To try to study science in the absence of knowledge of evolution is like trying to study mathematics in the absence of knowledge of the arithmatic properties of numbers.

Ah! Here it is! Scratch a Evolution-pusher and underneath is a government school defender. I have never known an exception.

Evolution-pusher? Seriously? I am a scientist. I defend science against the overwhelming forces of anti-science. I attempt to educate people on how to recognize pseudoscience, especially in areas where pseudoscientific beliefs have the real potential of harming their health.

And you apparently did not read or understand exactly what I said about public schools. In your little fantasy world where there are only private schools, how do poor children go to school? A realistic understanding of the situation tells me that poor children would be prevented from going to school in your fantasy world; I may detest public schools, but I think preventing children from going to school is a worse evil than sending them to public schools.

And, since you apparently did not understand what I said about public schools before: I was horribly bullied at school. Not bullied by students who took biology class, but bullied for all the usual and stupid reasons bullies harass others--because their victims are "different". I point this out because you seem to imagine that students of biology (where yes, they do learn about the fundamental evolutionary framework of biology) are out bullying the other kids when, in reality, they're the ones most likely to be victims. What the public schools did to my son is inexcusable. No, I'm not a fan of public schools, but I also did not come from a rich family like you apparently did, nor was I rich when my son was a child. And private schools were out of our reach.

how do poor children go to school?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

In a generation or two of Obamacare so accustomed to the existence of this socialist-entitlement, single-payer, and compulsory monstrosity will hotly ask< “ How will poor children get health care?”

Sadly, just as with government owned and run socialist-entitlement, single-payer, and compulsory schooling few will remember what it was like to be live free of the mental bars that encase their enslaved minds.

Sorry! Post #87 is unintelligible. It should read as ( please note the asteriks):

In a generation or two of Obamacare **citizens** so accustomed to the existence of this socialist-entitlement, single-payer, and compulsory monstrosity will hotly ask, “ How will poor children get health care?”

In other words: poor children would not be able to go to school--just like it was back in the days before public schools, which neither you nor I are old enough to remember.

FYI, during my lifetime, the government has *always* paid for poor children to receive medical care.
