I bet they round to the next higher, not nearest. $9.91 will become $10.00.

"merchants are preparing to round all transactions to the nearest ten-cent increment,

Well it's sure that the merchants will make very good profit. They will keep two sets of books. I wonder how many will declare the extra cents they received.

The loss of nickels and pennies is part of dumbing down the youth. Now they'll only know how to count by tens.

Even if we stop making pennies and nickels, most merchants will still accept them. So if a merchant tries rounding up to the next dime increment, you can probably force them to take your pennies and nickels. Smart merchants would, just for the value of the metals. (My wife would kill me if I touched her stash of hundreds of thousands of pennies.)

“merchants are preparing to round all transactions to the nearest ten-cent increment,”

And as this monetary change moves close to fruition, we’ll see merchants upping prices that end in .99 to the nearest dollar.01 so they can reap and instant 4% increase when it becomes law.

What about the tax man? How much of this "rounding up" will be get above and beyond the statutory amount?

Impeach the kenyan or secession.
