Having Self esteem and being religious (at least Christian) are completely at odds..

On the contrary......

Christians know their value to God and have NO reason to have poor self-esteem. They know who they are and what they're worth to Him.

They're worth enough for Him to come to the earth and die an excruciating death for.

That is NOT self esteem though.

Self esteem is saying "I am worthy just because I am me" which is a lie. We are are all no more than 10 pounds of sin in 5 pound bags. Useless and worthless by ourselves.

Self esteem is not gained as a result of achievement. It is not earned in any way. It is is a sickness akin to narcissism.

The only way we have any value is because God values us. But that is HIS esteem. Not self esteem.

One of this country's problems is we have so many children and young adults (and older adults for that matter) who have great self esteem but are absolutely worthless as members of society. We call these people parasites (47%) for the most part.
