I’ve known folks to grind the carrying handles clean off, and attach a pic rail with screws and epoxy etc. The handle puts the scope up too high. You may consider that to be an atrocity, but I am a form follows function guy. If you plan to use the rifle with optics, and not to sell it, I’d just cut the damn handle off. A gunsmith can blend it in so you don’t even know it was there.

It is too high for a cheek weld, but it is what it is.

I would not chop up a classic gun.
