I thought he went there in search of “shovel ready” jobs?
We sure did get suckered..
I don't think so. I think they were going bowling after the greeting was over.
WOW!!
W did not do it as a rule on foreign visits. The exception is for the APEC summits where there is a photo op for all attendees wearing the native dress of whatever country hosts it in a given year, so W did get photographed in a Chinese tunic made from some goofy-looking fabric. When the US has hosted the summit, I don’t know what we used as “traditional dress” for the event but it would be funny to see Putin in a hula skirt with flowers in his hair or a Hopi clown outfit with painted legs.
Picture looks obviously photo shopped,
Been here for 7 years in the bordering country and never seen anyone "wai" a servant. Considering most "servants" are here illegally and from a country not very respected.
Western folks are NOT expected to wai, but sometimes it can be a "nice" gesture if done PROPERLY!
As stated before, the higher the hand goes up, more respect is being shown. Which is exactly why western people should NOT do. A wrong gesture is far worse than no gesture.
What cracks me up about this picture is the smile on the face of whats his name in the middle. I assure you, he is laughing AT Obama not with him.
Bowbama bowing yet again...in a Mao shirt!
Ask your wife about a high wai and a low wai. I live Thailand and there is most definitely a difference. Low wai is for children, etc. High wai is a sign of respect/superior.
Foreigners that wai children with the hands at nose level look ridiculous. Everybody snickers although they hide it. Servants and children, hands move down lower. Mid chest is lowest. Wai an adult of equal or higher social level at that hand level is an insult.
wai to go, brocko — you’re a piece of work (or something)
Anybody have any info on this?
