Actually, it isn't. Judeo-Christian values are part of Western Civilization not the other way around. Classical Greece, the Roman Empire, and ancient Israel formed the roots of Western Civilization. It's roots were long established before the birth of Christianity.

Christianity is not Western Civilization anymore than a belief in the Greek and Roman pantheons of Gods and their place in the celestial firmament is. One need not be a Christian to have Western values.

Western Civilisation is part of this overall stream of Judeo-Christian values which also include the civilisations of the Russian states of Ethiopia, Georgia and Armenia and the Syriac Christianity that stretches from Syria to India and the Assyrian Christians

There is no problem with Spaniards in France or Poles in England, not even with Hindu/sikh/Christian Indians in the UK or Sri Lankan buddhists/christians in France

Islam is the largest part of the problem, but there actually are problems with all immigrants who come from different, non-Western cultures as well as blacks who come from the Caribbean and Africa--Christian or otherwise.

I have lived in five European countries for a period of 13 years. There is far more prejudice than in the US. The UK cannot be held up as an example of great tolerance, including even for Poles who went there to work.

That's the problem. The trouble with a mere defense of "culture and language" (and identity) is that every country and people on earth has a separate one.

That is reality, not the politically correct version of how groups interact with one another. We have far more countries today than we did when the UN was founded. Culture and language are extremely important bonds that tie people together and differentiate them from other groups.

There is no doubt that the elimination of colonialism the dissolution of countries that were defined by the colonial power rather than tribal or ethnic groupings has created many more countries. But there are plenty of cases such as the Czechs and Slovaks, the Scottish independence movement, the Québécois, etc. that demonstrate the desire of peoples to align themselves based on culture, language, and a shared history. To deny that is to deny human behavior.

The Leftist political elite have always believed that you could impose political, economic, and social systems that could alter human behavior. It dosen't work and we have countless examples to prove it.

Our Founders recognized that you couldn't change human behavior and came up with a system of government that recognized it by including various safeguards to protect our individual liberties. Government had to be limited so as to prevent human frailties from seizing the reins of power. Checks and balances, a written constitution, defining what the federal government could do; and relying on state and local government to counterbalance federal power.

Capitalism understands human nature and what motivates people to make profits. Although greed may be considered a vice, it is really a virtue if properly harnassed. Most people want to keep the fruits of their labor. The Communist collective farms found that out the hard way. And the Chicoms have tried to meld capitalism together with communism.

And it made America pre-eminent as well. Western Civilization has evolved to the point that it is the pre-eminent civilization in the history of Man. But great civilizations can decline and fall. That is what is happening now in many countries including our own. It is worth saving. I shudder what could take its place.

Apologies, I did a terrible job at getting my point across; and the last few years here at FR has shown that there are those who will just scan the threads looking to trounce on any slight nuance or idea.
I wonder if FR membership is declining?
