Everyone would jump at the opportunity to get their hands on a $1,000 gift card for free, but police warn that you should watch out for scams, according to police reports.

Omaha, Nebraska Police are warning residents of a scam text message that promises a gift card of $1,000 from the Target retail store.

Police said Target has nothing to do with the text message, which instructs the recipient to enter personal information on a website. The text message says that recipients can or have earned $1,000 from Target, and the recipient is registered for the contest.

Omaha Police officials say they are working with Target to resolve the association of Target with the fake website. Police have also warned people never to enter personal information on suspicious websites.

An IQ above room temperature is the best defense but since many of us avoid Target anyway it’s a non-issue.

I got this as a text message on my smart phone yesterday, but I mentioned I signed up for the contest. I don’t go to Target so I knew it was a scam.

I have a hated enemy (Democrat0 and ALL his info, which the dumb Barsted left out in front of me at a bar (just before I punched him and got thrown out). I always respond to these scams. And I order magazines for him.

I received the text message yesterday and my only reaction was “It’s five o’clock in the morning, dammit!” I pity the poor people who actually fall for this.
