True, and neither is a society based on secular humanism. Either way, the outlook for the Belgians is pretty grim.
The problem with Belgium (and I know people from there) is that the Catholic Church became very leftwing and stopped opposing Islam. And then there were the horrible Flemish/Belgian pedophile scandals, which involved not only Catholic and Protestant individuals, but most of the government and police authorities of the Lowlands, including a number of royals. This undermined popular confidence in either the churches or the government authorities.
But the big problem is that the Catholic Church dropped the ball. There are good bishops now, coming out and challenging both Islam and popular “morality,” but I think they may be too little, too late...unless they’re willing to go to the modern equivalent of the guillotine.
