That would not do it... Magnetics are not used in memory cards.

If they used magnetized storage media they can be degaussed by a magnet.

However you're correct if they are using flash memory.

The last magnetic media other than hard drives and the magnetic strips on credit cards, was floppy drives... They clearly are not using those.

However you could probably zap a memory card with enough static to damage it.
