Are these layoffs permanent?
I just read in a story about pending layoffs at Clinton Community Hospital that the union contract require a full YEAR notice before a layoff!
One other union contract (I wish I'd bookmarked the article!) required full pay for a year AFTER the lay off!
Are these layoffs permanent?
Suppose you're an actuary. Your job is assessing the statistical risk of each client based on age, smoking and other risk factors, and adjusting the payments and coverage so that the insurance company makes money.
Under a one-size-fits-all program, everyone gets full insurance, everyone pays the same.
What exactly is your job function now?
You guessed it, unemployed!
Because there really aren’t that many actual steel workers in the USA any more? Gotta get dues payers somewhere!
” Yet, I cant help but wonder why the steel workers union represents clerks.”
Kaiser Hospital is the remnant of the in-house health system of Kaiser Steel company. The steel union killed off Kaiser Steel in the 1970’s but he health system survived because they started accepting non-Kaiser employee groups as customers.
WOW - it looks as if Obama has brought them full circle. Or as they say; "What goes around comes around"
Don’t you just love it! The United Steelworkers are like leeches. They killed the US Steel plant in Fontana, CA years ago and then migrated from that corpse to the Kaiser hospital where they are in the process of sucking the blood out of that business too. I just hope that these worthless bastards get their “fair share” of the pain and suffering that their “mentor” FUBO is bringing to us all.
I see S.E.I.U. signs all over the Kaiser facilities I use. The Steel Workers are part of a coalition of unions at Kaiser. I can’t imagine the Steel Workers have a large part. Probably something left after WWII when Kaiser was a major ship building and industrial firm and the medical side was small.
I worked at Kaiser for 5 years. They have a very powerful union in every area, from the clerical workers to the nurses..
We will see these HMO Health insurance companies fold, one by one, when they start losing the large employer groups who previously offered the insurance to their employees, but can longer afford to so.
By 2025 and the whole system be single payer. mark my words.
trying to live with it. Americans want want it, not this American but a bit more than half do.
