NO DOUBT there are some like you say... here just for the welfare handouts.
BUT most of the Latino immigrants we meet are very hard working and they want to get ahead. They are NOT sitting on their butts collecting the dole. (Rather, many native-born “Anglos” do this now.....this is the secret problem nobody is raising....methinks...).
Call any contractor or home repair service in any trade and you will see mostly Latino workers accompanying same, and (so far, anyway) they all work hard here and do good jobs.
They are not sitting at home on welfare and watching Oprah.
I really, really believe that the majority of Latino immigrants are interested in a reasonably conservative economic-opportunity message plus a mostly-traditional-socia-values message, too. Just my personal observations, which may not accurately reflect the total picture, but really this is how it appears from everything I can see. Oh yes, they are also flocking into the high school and public college classes... English classes plus a lot of job training and trades-oriented instructional programs. These are not lazy people, nor are they prone to a life of indolence ...
Well, that is what we see anyway. I hope it is a reasonably accurate reflection of the larger picture? It is at any event the best I can do with this, is to just report what we see...and let you decide what you think of it.
thanks for your note.
Take your skilled tradesman eye to Mexico, and you will be shocked at how they know nothing and don't care to know anything about quality work. Look at everything over there, from block walls, to yards, to buildings, all the things that shady Americans think that they are suddenly expert at for 10 dollars an hour when they come here.
No one even checks on Mexicans, if someone looks Mexican, Americans just assume that they know things that in reality, they probably never even did in their life, but when asked, the Mexicans answer is always "Yes, I can do that".
People who know something about craftsmanship and skill, and hard work, know that America has plummeted in that area since Mexicans took over the trades, even gardening is unskilled and basically consists of primitive maintenance, as landscaped yards and sprinkling systems slowly move backwards, instead of improving, and being upgraded, when 50 and 60 years ago, gardeners knew something about their job.
The building trades no longer have craftsmen and true journeyman, they are now totally made up of the unskilled, and of people skilled enough to be called skilled helpers in the past.
Mexico, before PC became the norm, was rightfully know as a place of lazy, indifferent people with rare exceptions, a place know for "mañana".
Before the 1965 Immigration Act, we received a few of those good, rare exceptions, people that I used to admire and like, and respect, but with mass immigration and welfare, we have become a branch of old Mexico and are being colonized by the opposite of what made America great.
If you have a response to post 23, then respond to it on this thread, not in freepmail.
Further, that so many have been lulled into seeing things in the rose colored way you've described here has allowed the situation to decay past the point of no return.
We will all pay/are paying dearly for it.
