UPDATE 1-Five US Republican govs reject state-run health markets: OH, MI & FL willing to work w/DC

Five Republican governors rejected on Friday a major provision of President Barack Obama's healthcare reform law that calls on U.S. states to set up online health insurance markets where consumers can purchase private coverage at federally subsidized rates.

That makes it likely that the federal government will establish its own markets, known as healthcare exchanges, in those states and potentially supplant state control of private individual insurance markets.

But in what could be a sign of thawing relations between administration officials and some state Republican leaders, three of the five governors -- representing Ohio, Michigan and Florida -- expressed a willingness to work with Washington as reforms inch toward a Jan. 1, 2014, deadline for full operation.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal said they would not cooperate at all.

Missouri Governor Jeremiah Nixon, a Democrat, said the state would not run its own exchange but did not take a position on a federal partnership. He said the state legislature could take up the issue early next year.

Meanwhile, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, a Republican, deferred to the state's governor-elect, Mike Pence, also Republican, who has said he intends to oppose both a state-based exchange and a federal partnership after assuming office next year...

If Gov. Nixon is a Democrat, why the misleading headline? Or are they counting Texas?

nothing good will come with working with socialists. even if the state sets up the exchange, the feds still will run it. it’s the law. no upside for the state. when the shitty service begins , the state will get the blame even tho the feds are running it.

Rick Snyder is an Ann Arbor Semicrat always willing to take credit for anything the legislature puts on his desk as long as it doesn’t anger people too much.

Fortunately we do have an attorney general who is fighting for us.

I am not seeing the big picture here and its still just a vague understanding of how Obamacare is being shoved either down our throats or up our a$$.

As far as I know when a state rejects Obamacare and nobody has shown us a map of that then it means we don’t have to buy health insurance?

But if a state says they will work with the Feds then its done automatically and you just get a smaller paycheck?

Last I heard my state Alaska rejected setting up a state health exchange. I think that means a good thing.

In another article (no link) it says that the states only get to PAY for everything, but the feds will run the exchanges totally.

All the Okies out there, call or email Gov. Fallin, the RINO, and make sure she is not going to consider going along with this socialist mess. Deep in her squishy moderate heart, she wants to create an exchange. We need to remind her that the citizens of OK do not.

I’m so glad Nathan Deal did the right thing.

Rick Snyder is known as RINO Rick for a reason. He's farily good on unions, and signed the partial birth abortion ban, but other than that, he's not very good. Big government, high taxes, green transit.

He only won since five conservatives split the vote in the primary.

The dumbass promised to oppose putting right to work on the ballot if the public sector unions would keep prop 2 off the ballot. Well, we had to vote against prop 2 on the ballot and right to work was nowhere to be seen.
